In describing the practical operation of my itnproved ellt't't or station indicator. it will be asetuned that all of the working parts are stationary and. ready to begin working. In the preferred construction of the device the worm shaft 20 and motor shaft 20" are two separate or distinct parts. The clutch consisting of the spools 22 and 22' drives the worm shaft 20 by means of afeather or key working in a groove in the shaft, and said clutch is riven by means of the motor clutch 24. The motor has no way of driving the worm shaft c'xee t by means of this clutch. The object 0 this is to allow the motor to die down gradually after the current has been shut otl', while the clutch 22 and 22' and all mechanism driven by it is brought to a sudden stop by means of the stationary clutch member 23.

For a better upderstanding of the circuits by which the ditferent parts are operated, reference is to be particularly had to Fig. 11. 'lhe'trolley contact G coming in contact with the trolle trip' H causes the current to tlow throug the tri magnet E which raises the contacts F, t erebv opening the circuit in the magnet 29. The plunger or movable core of the magnet 29 thereupon moves downward, actuated by gravity and assisted by the spring 31 acting on the arms 30 and 30. The downward movement of the plunger closes the motor switch 32, and the motor circuit being closed, the motor shaft 2!? will revolve, and through the gears before described will wind the web or tape 1 from one spool over the contact .roller 5 and the contact wheel 34. Thereu on the circuit in the magnet will be close causing the core thereof to be moved up, and opening the motor circuit and thereby stopping the motor and bringing the machineto a standstill. It is to be understoml that my invention is not limited to the exact constructions, arrangement and proportion of the parts specitied in the foregoing description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but that various changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the a pended claims.

An indicator of the character described, embodying a display web, spools from and on which said web is adapted to wind, a motor for driving said spools, an operative connection bet-ween said motor and one of the spools, said connection including two separate shafts, one of which is a motor shaft and a clutch spool interposed between and mounted on said shafts, a shipper lever operatively connected to said clutch spool, means tendin to hold the shipper lever in a osition w iere the clutch spool will estu ilish the operative connection between the motor shaft and the other shaft, an electromagnet provided with a plunger, connected to the shipper lever and arranged a on the cnergization of the ma at to move t e shipper lever in a direction to disconnect the motor shaft from the other shaft, means for automatically and intermittently enerizin said magnet, and a brake with which he 0 ntch spec is adapted to engage upon the energization of the magnet.

and means for automatically, intcrmittingly energizing the electromagnet whereby to throw the shipper lever in a direction to effeet the breaking of the operative connection 6 between the ui'ctor am] the spool attd the opening of the motor circuit.

An indicator of the class described, embodying a'ilisplay web, spools on and 6 from which said web is adapted to wind, an electro-motor provided with a driving shaft, a clutch member mounted on said shaft. another shaft in longitudinal alinement with the motor shaft, but distinct therefrom, a driving connection between one of said spools and said last named shaft, a stationary clutch member, clutch spools mounted between said clutch members and arranged to alternately engage the same upon the movement of the clutch spools in one direction or the reverse longitudinally of said shafts, a ship er lever operatively connected to said spoo s, a contact arm carried by the shipper lever arranged to make and break the motor circuit, means ada ted to hold the shipper lever in a position w ere the contact arm thereof, will maintain the motor circuit closed and a clutch spool will engage the clutch member of the motor shaft. on clectromagnct provided with a plunger connected to said shipper lever, and means for automatically and intermittingly producing in said clcctromagnet a condition in which the plunger will be moved in a direction to swing the shipper lever to a position where the other s 001 will engage the stationary clutch mem r and the contact member of the shipper lever will open the motor circuit. r

An indicator of the character described embodying a display web, 0018 from and on which said we is adapte to wind, shafts on which said spools are mounted, ratchets carried by said shafts, pawls engagin the respective ratchcts, pawl-carrying die to wlnch said pawls are secured, friction disks arranged contiguous to the pawl disks, means for driving one of said friction disks aml its corresponding pawl disk, band wheels mounted on and between the corres onding portions of the friction disks and t e pawl carrying disks, and a belt passing around said wheels.
7. An indicator of the character described,
ratchets. pawl carrying disks to whic said pawls are secured one of said disks bein formed with an extended hub, a worm whee mounted on the hub. means including a worm meshing with said worm wheel for driving said disk whereby to effect the rotation of one of the shafts of said spool, and a connection between said shafts of the respective spools whereby the spools will be rotated simultaneously.
