Be it known that I, THOMPSON Hansis LYON, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Renfrew, ler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved lVave-Detector, of which the following is a fu l, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to wave detectors, and more particularly to wave detectors of the kind known as rectiers and which employ crystalline or crystallo'id substances to be energized by electric oscillations and which may be employed in connection with wave meters as well as in the commercial and experimental sending of messages in wireless telephony and telegraphy.
My improved wave detector, because of its character as a rectifier, does not necessarily require a battery or other source of local current, as is the case with many kinds of wave detectors. y The wave detectors of the rectifier type heretofore produced usually lose niuch of their sensitiveiiess after being in use for some time, and particularly if strong electric currents are passed through them, or if they are employed in close proximity to a powerful radiating circuit. Such detectors need frequent adjustment and in many instances are troublesome to adjust properly.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a wave detector of the rectifier type which, while simple in construction, is4 comparatively sensitive, does not deteriorate in use, is affected very little by local disturbances, needs only occasional adjustment, 'and can be easily and quickly adjusted whenever necessary. I have made the discovery that the lead oreknown as cerusite (PbCO-l) has such natural properties as are fitted for use in carrying out the objects just stated. No particular form of mounting is essential to the use of this material in the relation stated, but-for convenience I show a very simple form of mounting for this purpose.
Reference is'made to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specificaltion, in which like characters of references indicate corresponding parts in the view, and in which the figure shows a vertical section through my improved wave detector.

The position of the elect-rode point upon the ore may also be shifted or adjusted by shifting the position of the holder 10 with any degree of delicacy desired. manner of mounting the fragment 7 is not materially different from that of mounting other fragments of crystalline or crystalloid substances, and the mounting and adjustment of the electrode ll will be readily understood from analogies found in this art. The cerusite ore being of a metallic nature has a relatively low resistance, and consequently any ordinary telephone receiver may be used in connection with it.
