To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, HENRY (ELAY'TEUTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adamsville, in 'the county of McNairy and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Lace- Retainers', of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the'accoinpanying drawings.
This invention relates to'new and useful improvements 1n shoe lace retainers and more particularly to a devlce of this character which serves not only .to hold the faces in place but serves as an ornamental closure of construction, combination and arrange:
ment of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying'drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shoe showing my invention applied thereto; Fig,- 2 is a sectional view on the line 2'2 of F ig. 1; F ig.-3 is a rear view of one of the retainers; and Fig. Lisga detail The retainer is stamped from a blank piece of leather or other flexible materialto form a substantial oval-shaped body portion 1, which is provided with the elongated extensions 2 ateach, end thereof, said extensions being slit as shown at 3. Rings4 are therewith and extending across the centerof/ the ring. These rings aresecured to ithe retainer by-having the extensions 2 passed up through the rings 4, the bars 5 passing through the slits 3, and-the. ends of the extensions are to be secured together at the back as shown at 6 by sewing or any other suitable means. The 'face of the oval shaped body portion 1 can be made'plain or it can, be decorated with any ,design as shown in Fig. 1.

, It will beseen from a View of Fig. 1 that with 'my device the lace can be run upthrough the eyelets oneach side of the closure instead of crossing and recrossing the closure, which is the'present method, the retai-ner serving'to connect the eyelets on each side of the closure by .means' of the l'a'ce passing through the rings 4 and over the ar 5.
While I have shown and described the preferred construction of my invention it will be obvious'that various changes in the details of construction and in the pro or tions may be resorted'to for success ully carryingthe invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope-thereof. Having thus dcscribedthe invention what is claimed is 'A shoe lace retainer comprising a; substantial oval shaped body portion, an elongated extension formed on each end of said body. said extensions having slits formed therein, a ring secured to each of said extensions, a bar formed integral with eachof said rings and extending across the center thereof, said, extensions being joined, when passed through said rings and brought together at the back of the body portion, having one half of each extension disposed upon each side of the bar, and ,a lacing cord of the'ring and over the-bars in the center thereof.
