Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that l, Jos GONZALEZ, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Laredo, in the count-y of 1Webb and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Tater-Motors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement. in water motors, and has for its object a. device of this character which will be operated by the current of the water and force the water to distant points.
It has for its further object means for starting and stopping the operation of the motor which may be controlled from any point.
With these and other objects in view, my invention relates to various details of construction as will be more thoroughly understood from the following speciiication and drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 is a detail showing the mechanism for controlling the operation of the motor; Figs. 3 and 4 are details, and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary detail of the wheels and shaft.
The numeral- 1 indicates a concrete base which is formed in the bed of the river or stream and supported upon this base by means of the supports 2 is a plate 3. Revolubly mounted upon this plate is a. disk or turn table 4, which carries a part of the machinery which will hereinafter be more thoroughly described. The disk or turn table 4 is secured upon the plate 3 by means of clamps 5 and 6. The clamps 5 are secured to the disk or turn table and have an extension which extends over the edge and beneath the plate 3, thus holding the two members together. The clamp 6 is somewhat diierent in construction from the clamps 5 and comprises the arm secured to the plate 3 and a pivoted member secured thereto which is spring cont-rolled and the end of which is of such a shape that it will extend over the edge and beneath the disk or turn table. 1t will readily be understood that when it is desired to remove the disk or turn table 4 from the plate 3 it is only necessary to release the spring controlled clamp 6, and move the disk or turn table horizontally for a short dist-ance, when the clamps 5 will be disengaged from the plate 3, and the turn table can then be easily removed.
Secured upon the disk 4 are the journals 7 which are adapted to support a shaft 8 to either end of which is secured a water .wheel 9, one of the wheels shown in dotted lines. Also secured upon the disk 4 are the brackets 10 which are adapted to support the crank shaft 11. Secured to the shaft 8 is a gear wheel 12 which meshes with a smaller gear wheel on the crank shaft 11. The crank shaft 11 has an odset arm 14 to which is secured a rod 15 carrying a piston head 1G which is adapted to operate in the suction pump cylinder 17. 18 is a strainer connected to the suction pump cylinder by means of a pipe 19. The shaft 8 has an offset 20, Vto which is secured a rod which operates a piston in the suction pump 21. 22 represents a` strainer connected to the suction pump 21 by the pipe 23, and it will be understood that the water will be drawn through the strainer into the suction pump. The water is conveyed from the suction pump cylinder 17 to a distant point by means of the pipe 24, and the water is also conveyed from the suction pump 21 to the pipe 24 by means of a flexible tubing 25.
For turning the turn table I provide a cable or wire 26 which is secured to the clamps 5 upon theturn table as clearly shown in the drawings. This cable or rope after leaving the turn table extends over the pulleys 27 which are secured to one of the supports 2. A number of pulleys 28 are secured to the pipe 24, and after leaving the pulleys 27 the cable 26 passes through the pulleys 28 on the pipe 24 and is then secured to a sprocket chain, which in turn is secured to a gear wheel which will be more fully hereinafter described.
Secured at a distant point upon the shore is a support 29 upon which is mounted a wheel 80 having a gear wheel 31, and it is to this gear wheel that the sprocket chain is connected for operating the cable, which in turn operates the turn table. r1`he upper surface of the support 29 is provided with ratchet teeth 32, and the support for the wheel 30 is also provided with ratchet teeth whereby the wheel 8O may be moved backward or forward upon the support 29 for adjusting the tension of the cable.
Having fully described the several parts of the invention I will now proceed to describe the operation of the same.
y When it is'desired to set the machine in motion, the wheel 30 is turned in Order to operate the cable and revolve the turn table in such a direction that the water wheels 9 will be parallel with the current of the stream whereby they will be operated. Motion is transmit-ted from the water wheels 9 to the shafts 8 and 11 and gears 12 and 13 and will thus operate the rods which are connected to the suction pumps 17 and 21. Tater is drawn into the suction pumps through the strainers 18 and 22, and from the suction pumps is conveyed through the pipe 24 to any desired point. As before stated, the suction pump 21 is connected to the pipe 24k by the fiexible tubing 25. After the desired quantity of water has been pumped the wheel 30 is again turned, thus drawing the turn table in such a direction as to bring the water wheels 9 at right ani gles to the current of the river or stream and thus stop the operation of the motors.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence l do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein Set forth, but:
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
A water motor comprising a support, a turn table mounted upon the support, a shaft carrying water wheels journaled upon the t-urn table, crank shaft journaled upon the turn table above the first mentioned shaft, gears carried by the two shafts, a suetion pump carried by the turn table and connected to the first mentioned shaft, and a suction pump carried by the support and connected to the second mentioned shaft, said pumps being operated by the water wheels for drawing water, and means for conveying the water from the pumps.
