Description

T. G. SHEEHAN'. RAZOR.
APPLICATION FILED F3314, 1911.
1,007,898 Patented NOV. 7, 1911.
THOMAS C. SHEZEHAN, OF JERSEY CITY,
RAZOR COMPANY, OF NEW YORK,
NEW JERSEY,' ASSIG NOB flO DURHAM DUPLEX N. Y? A eoarom'rron or NEW you.
RAZOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs C. a citizen of the United States, Jersey City, county of Hudson,
SHEEHAN,
and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in razors, particularly to the type known in trade as the Durham duplex.
The main object of the present invention is the production of an improved razor of the above type in which a blade support-ing member and a blade clamping member are secured together by simple means which is also capable of preventing accidental dis placement of the members.
Another object is to lessen the cost of manufacture so that an eflicient razor can be made and sold at a lower rice than has been heretofore found possible.
With these and other objects not specifi cally mentioned in view, the invention consists in certain constructions and combinations which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and inwhich like characters of reference indicate the same or like part-s, Figure 1 is a general view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1. i
In carrying the lnventlon into effect, there is provided a handle 1 to which is pivoted a shank 2 extending from what may be termed a blade supporting. member 3. Cooperating with the blade supporting member is a blade clamping member 4.. This blade clamping member is constructed of sheet metal and is provided with a pair of lugs 5 offset from the planes of the clamping member and punched fromthe same blank. These lugs are adapted to pass through a perforation in a blade 6 and engagea pair of ledges 7 countersunk in the face of the supporting member 3. In order that the lugs 5 may be slid into engagement with the ledges 7, the supporting member 3 is provided with a pair of slots 8 adjacent the ledges and through which the lugs are Specification of Letters latent. Application filed February 24, 1911,
residing at Patented Nov. 7, 1911. eria Np- 619 2 passed after passing through the blade perforation.
For the purpose of preventing accidental displacement of the members after they are assembled with a blade in position between them, each of the lugs 5 is provided with a projection .9. which is adapted to engage a cooperating indentation 10 formed in the ledge 7. It is to be understood that the lugs 5 are vresilient enough to permit the projections 9 to ride over the free end of the ledges until they reach a position immediately over the indentations 10, and that they will then snap into locked position.
Changes and variations may be made in the structure by means of which the invention is carried into effect. The invention, therefore, is not to be restricted to the precise details of the structure shown and described.
What is claimed is: I
1. In a razor, the combination with a blade supporting member, of a blade clamping member formed of sheet metal and having an offset lug adapted to engage the supporting member to clamp a blade between the members, and means for preventing displacement of the members including a projection formed on the lug and adapted to engage an indentation in the supporting member. p
2. In a razor, the combination with a blade supporting member, of a blade clamping member formed of sheet metal and hav ing a resilient offset lug adapted to frictionally engage. the supporting member to clamp a blade between the members,'and means for preventing displacement of the members including a projectionand a cooperating indentation one of which is carried by the lug and the other by the supporting member.
3. In a razor, the combination with a blade supporting member having a plurality of slots and'a plurality of ledges adjacent said slots, each of the ledges being provided with an indentation, of a blade clamping member formed of sheet metal and provided with a plurality of oifset lugs each provided with a projection adapted to engage the indentations of the ledges.
4. In a razor, the combination with a blade supporting member having a plurality of slots and a plurality of ledges adjacent said slots, each of the ledges being provided with an indentation, of a blade clamping member formed of sheet metal and provided With a plurality of integral ofi'set lugs each provided with a projection adapted to engage the indentations of the ledges.
5. In a razor, the combination with a blade supporting member having a plurality of slots and a plurality of countersunk ledges adjacent said slots, each of the ledges being provided with anindentation, of a blade clamping member formed of sheet metal'and provided with a plurality of integral oflset lugs each having a projection adapted to pass through a perforation in a blade and engage one of the indentations of the ledges.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS C. SHEEHAN.
