The object of this invention is to enable both good economy with eflioiency and also quick acceleration to be obtained without employing a separate control device.
The accompanying drawings show the application of the mvent-ion to a carbureter of the'type described in my prior Patent -No. 883740. j In these, Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a spray carbureter, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. It will benoticed that the jet ca K is directly co'njliected with the control over J and that the throttle valve is rotated throu h thepiriand slot L and Y. Thus when t e lever J is'moved the pin moves in the .slot' .so-that the jet is actuated without the throttle valve being moved until the pin has reached the end of the slot. The throttle valveis then picked up and rotated with the jet cap. Thus for first movement of the lever in one direction the jet is controlled, and subsequently 'the various valves simulta-' neously.
In carburetors of the type in whioh the jet outletis controlled with the throttle valve or air inlet, or both, it is found thatrapid acceleration is not obtainable except by the sacrifice of economy. That is to say that if the jet outletis of certain size to. provide economy, it is not big enough for purposes of quick acceleration. The construction illustrated obviates this, as during acceleration the lever J is moved to open the throttle valve, but it has the effect of first opening up the jet outlet above its normal.

This has i the effect of moving the, pin to the other ture this can be done by moving the control lever slightly in the required direction which moves the jet cap K to enlage or decrease the outlet without afl ectingthe position of the throttle and ,air valves. It will. be seen that in this manner both good economy during normal running can be obtained, and like Wise a richer mixture under certain conditions, providing good acceleration and hill climbing power. It will be noticed that this improved acceleration isobtained througziout the whole range, that is to say, the richer mixture is obtainable throughout the whole range of opening of the carbureter and the choice of slight variation of the mixture is offered at any position of the throttle valve.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a earbureter, the combination with a casing having an air inlet and a'carbureted air outlet, of a cylindrical throttle valve rotatably mounted within the casing and having ports adapted to simultaneously control the said air inlet and carbureted air outlet,
,adapted to be brought into said throttle valve also having an inwardlyextending flange, a ca projecting upwardl above said flange and arranged concentrically within the throttle valve and having an outwardly-extending flange and also an eccentric outlet opening, a jet nozzle arranged within the cap and having an opening with which the opening in the cap is and out of register when the cap is turned, means for turning the cap, and a pin and slot connection between the flanges on the cap and throttle valve whereby to permit the cap to at first turn slightly in relation to the throttle to cause the jet outlet to be operated and to thereafter cause the cap and throttle valve to move together.
