Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH MADDEN, of 48 Capel street, Dublin, Ireland, boot and shoe manufacturer, have invented new and useful Improvements Relating to Revolving Reversible Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
This invention has reference to revolving reversible seats, and in order that my invention may be readily understood and carried into effect I will now proceed to describe the same fully with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a transverse section through a seat embodying my invention and taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the shade or awning hereinafter described.
In carrying my invention into effect I journal in suitable end supports or frames a a spindle 6 upon which is mounted the seat composed of wooden bars or fillets a secured to end pieces (Z through which the spindle 6 passes.
The end pieces (Z are built up of a central frame (Z suitably apertured as at b for the spindle b, and formed with its periphery as trough shaped grounds for the foundation of a trough e, and which is held in place by a one piece stay d complementally formed as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The stays cl form the base to which the bars 0 are secured.
In each of the end pieces d I form a water channel 6 which may be made of zinc or other suitable material and having holes f forming outlets. The end supports or frames 4; are formed with arm rests g and a back rest or supoprt 72. is also provided which may be pivoted upon the spindle b so that it may be swung from side to side. The said end supports are provided with brackets 71 serving to support standards 71 to which the awning or shade j may be attached. This awning is preferably constructed as shown in Fig. 3 and comprises a frame 70 covered with suitable fabric said frame having a socket Z adapted to fit over a pin m projecting from a bar n which is arranged between the standards 6 said bar n havlng a pin 0 at each end adapted to fit in holes formed at the top of each stand.
Suitable binders or stays such as p serve to connect the end frames a rigidly together. Suitable means such as a pin or catch may be provided for retaining the seat in the de sired position.
It will be seen that a seat constructed in accordance with my invention may be readily reversed or revolved around its spindle thus always providing a dry seat for use rain or moisture being conducted away from the top side by means of the aforesaid water channels.
What I do claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A rotatable reversible seat comprising, a suitable support, and a seat structure rotatably carried by said support, said seat structure including a plurality of spaced apart symmetrical polygonal shaped frame members arranged about a common aXis of rotation, each having its periphery provided with trough shaped grounds, a continuous covering of material formed to the periphery of said frame members and connecting the same to form troughs, a one-piece stay for each of said frame members out to fit the periphery of said covering with cut out portions at the V of the said trough formed thereby, and a plurality of seats secured to said stay, one above each of the said troughs, combined substantially as described.
