To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, J OSEPI-I S. CARR and HARRY C. MURPHY, citizens of the United States, residing at Star Junction, in the county of Fayette, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Auxiliary Pedal, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to supplemental pedals for use in connection with pianos and the like, its object being to provide a simple attachment of this character which can be readily applied to any one of the pedals of a musical instrument and by means of which the pedals of said instrument can be conveniently depressed by children performing on the instrument.

A further object is to provide a pedal of this character which can be readily applied, and which can be adjusted to-various posi tions to meet the requirements of the performer.

With the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim. a

In said drawings,Figure 1 is a side elevation of the supplemental pedal attached,

to a pedal of a piano or the like. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a section on line AB Fig. 2, the tubular standard being shown in elevation.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a curved tubular standard one end of which is reduced annularly as shown at 2 and adapted to fit within a collar 3 formed at the upper end of oppositely bowed clamping arms l. Each of these arms has an ear 5 extending downwardly from its free end, the two ends being engaged by a screw 6. A set screw 7 extends into the collar and serves to secure it upon the end 2 of the standard 1. The upper end of the standard 1 is tapered and screw-threaded, as shown at 8 and has slots 9 extending thereinto so as to permit said end to be contracted by means of a nut 10. This nut has a tapered screw-threaded recess 11 therein into which the tapered end 8 of the standard is adapted to project and, obviously, by screwing the nut 10 onto said tapered portion 8, the upper end portion of the standard will be caused to contract. An opening 12 is formed in the nut 10 and a curved rod 13 extends therethrough and into the standard 1. A foot plate 1A is secured to the upper end of this rod.

The supplemental pedal which has been described, is adapted to be placed in position by slipping the arms 4: into engagement with the pedal proper C of the musical instrument. By adjusting the screw 6, these arms can be caused to tightly bind upon said pedal C and thus hold the collar 3 fixed with relation thereto. The reduced end 2 of standard 1 can then be inserted into the collar and said standard turned so as to bring its upper end to a desired position. The standard is then held against further movement relative to the collar 3,by tightening the set screw 7. After the parts have thus been adjusted, the rod 13 is shifted longitudinally to bring the plate 14 at a desired elevation and by then screwing the nut 10 onto the tapered end 8 of the standard, said end can be contracted so as to bind upon the rod and hold it against displacement.

Various changes can of course be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

hat is claimed is An attachment of the class described including a collar, an adjustable pedal-engaging clip carried by the collar, a curved tubular standard mounted at one end for rotation within the collar, means engaging the standard for holding it against rotation, a rod having an arcuate portion slidably mounted within the longitudinally curved bore of the standard and extending above the standard, a foot plate upon the upper end of the rod and constantly located beyond the upper end of the standard, and means engaging the standard for securing the rod against movement relative to the standard.
