UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVIS MARINSKY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MEANS FOR SECURING ORNAMENTS TO ARTICLES 0F APPAREL.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVIS MARiNsKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Securing Grnaments to Articles of Apparel, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to means for securing1 ornamental stones, such as diamonds, rubies, Sapphires or other stones of this class, or imitations of such stones, or ornamental buttons of any kind or class to articles of apparel such as collars, bows, ties, or the collars or lapels or other lparts of a dress, coat or other garment worn by ladies; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device or devices of this class whereby ornaments of the class specified may be quickly and easily secured to articles of apparel without stitching or sewing; and with this and other objects in viewthe invention consists in a device or devices of the class specitied constructed and operated as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and in which g-Figure 1 is an outside view of a ladys collar ornamented with precious stones or imitations of precious stones which are secured in place according to my invention; Fig. 2 a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and on an enlarged scale; Fig. 3 a perspective view of a bow tie showing my improvement applied thereto, and ;-Fig. 4: a perspective view of the device which I employ for connecting the stones, buttons or other ornaments with an article of apparel.
In the drawing forming part of this speciiication I have shown at a a collar which may consist of velvet, plush or any other suitable fabric and which as shown in Fig. 2 consists of a single sheet or strip of said material, but which may be provided with a lining or consist of two or more strips of Specification of Letters Patent.

material placed together as may be desired. The collar a is shown as provided with a plurality of ornamental stones, buttons or similar devices b which are secured thereto by means of a back piece c which is preferably cup-shaped or disk-shaped in form and provided at its perimeter with a plurality of projecting teeth 02 similar to those employed for setting jewels, precious stones or the like. In practice the back piece c is manipulated from the back of the garment or from the back of a part of the garment, collar, bow or other article so as to press the teeth c2 therethrough, and the stone, button or other ornament b is placed between said teeth as shown in Fig. 2, and the said teeth are then clamped or pressed down so as to inclose the side edges of the stone or other ornament as clearly shown in said figure, and this operation may be performed by a pair of pliers or any other suitable in,- strument.
It will be understood that the stones, buttons or ornaments b, a number of which are shown, may be of any desired size, as may also the back piece c, and the teeth c2 on saidback piece may be of any necessary length according to the size of the various parts and the thickness of the article of apparel or parts thereof; and said back piece c may be composed of any suitable material.
By means of my improvement ornamental stones, buttons, jewels or other articles of this class may be quickly and easily secured to an article of apparel without stitching or sewing and the said stones, buttons, jewels, or other articles may also be quickly and easily detached from the article of apparel whenever desired by pressing the teeth c2 outwardly and detaching the parts c and b from said article, and with my improvement the ornament or setting may also be pressed into the article of apparel or countersunk, or partially countersunk therein, and an attractive result may thus be produced.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;-
The herein described means for securing a jewel, or similar ornament on the front or outer side of an article of apparel composed Of iblOuS material, said means consisting of a metal back member or disk provided at its peripheral edge with projecting prongs which are passed through the article of apparel from the back thereof forwardly 0r my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 23rd day of November 1910.
DAVIS MARINSKY.
outwardly and between the points of which Witnesses: the jewel or similar ornament is secured. C. E. MULREANY, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as B. M. RYERSON.
