Eto complete the electric ciicuit in which it is 1,006,394. ELECTRIC PUSH-BUTTON.- l JacksoN Liar. lilonuicni., New York, N. Y.
Filed June 9, 1911. Serial No. 632,146.
To all whom 'it may concern:
g Be it known that I, Jackson L. i\loaai:i.i., j a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resi-g i dent of the city of New York. borough of i Manhattan, in the county and State of New l York, have invented a new and Improved l. Electric Push-Button, of which the follow-i Among the principal objects which the 'present invention has in view are: to provide a resilient. rest.for the plug employed in buttons of the character named which forms an ei'e'n supiort therefor to avoid fthe rocking of the. lintton when depressed ',iintorporat-ed; to provide contacting nicmbers for completing thc circuit arranged to avoid the usual carbonizing thereof; to ex. ltend the supporting base of the resilient member of the button; and to reduce the labor of assembling the button.
One embodiment of the presentl inven-i tion is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in whicli,
Figure 1 is a face view of a button constructed and arranged in accordance with,
f the present invention; Fig. 2 is a verticali l cross section of a button constructed in acl .l cordaiice with the present invention, the l 'i sect-ion being taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 3; Fig. 3 is n vertical cross section taken on 1 the line 3 3 in Fig. 2; and Fi 4 is a detail view of the base plate an contactingg nionntings thereon, the cap and plug Ibeing@ i removed.
As shown in the accompaiiyin drawings, the base plate 9 is coiistructe from any suitable insulating material, such as rubber or fiber. The ilatc 9 is secured to the standing structure y any suitable means. The means are not herein indicated as they would vary according to the nature of the struc- `:turc The preferred form of securing the l cap 10 to the base plate 9 is that shown in Fi s. 2 and 3 where the plate 9 is depicted as aving a screw thread formed on its pe- `riphery. A registering internal thread is formed on the cap 10 whereby the same is i screwed into holding position upon the plate 1,19 when the plate is secured to the standing ,l structure. As in usual constructions the cap l 10 is provided with a recessed portion 11` l having a central perforation formed therein rfor the extension therethrough of the plug l 12. The plug 12 is of ordinary construe t tion, havin a base flange to prevent the projection of tie plug through the perforation i in the cap 10. 'l ie plug 12, in the present i invention 'rests upon the flat top sections 13, 13, equally disposed and laterally extend` ed from the pendant wedge sect-ion 14. The
section "l-iis' drawiinto` 'asnclosemiin angularl section 14 an leuch lconnected withone of i plate 21 is secured to the base plate 9 b v tric circuit.
edge at the lowci end thereof as the nature of the material permits. The metal formi ing the spring seat forthe button, and inrated in the sections 13 and 14, is sligitly restricted adiacent the .sections 13 to form the two ben sections 15,-15 each removed an ual distance from the wedge i the foot plates 16. The foot plates 16 arci shaped and extended substantially as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The exteistorsl of t-he two plates 16 are upon o posite sides i of the sections 13 and 15, thus orining sup porting members for the s ring rest or t ie i plug 12, the rocking tentency whereof isi; argely diminished. '1o minimize the labor for assembling the i plate 9 and s ring rest for the lug 12, each of the foot p atcs 16 is provide( with a. spur extension 17 which is sharpened and pressed j into the plate 9. The opposite ends of the plates 16 are perforated to pass the shank of the screws 18 and 19. The screw 19 is utilized as a binding screw for the terminal 2O of the electric circuit. Connected to the opposite branch of the electric circuit is a. contact plate 21. The plate 21 is upturned at one end to form a ridge 22. As seen in Fi 2 of the drawings the ridge 22 is dispose( beneath and ier pendicular to the wedge sect-ion 14. he ,i
means of a screw 23 which is also utilized as a binding screw for connectin the tcrminal 24 of the opposite branch o the elec- When the button is completed and assembled, as shown in the drawings, it will be found that the spring seat of the plug is of an even and non-rockin character. -The bent sections 15 provide or an even resistil ance of both sides of the spring seat of the bearing edffes of the button. It will also be found t at the oppositely disposed foot, 'j plates 16, 16 overcome any tendency to rock L.' on the median line of the sprin seat; and further, that the cost of assemb age, so important in articles of this kind, is materially reduced over the cost for the same class of 'i work in the present ordinary construct-icing By the arrangement wherein the ridge 22: and the contracted edge of the wedge section u 14 are crossed, a crossed knife-like junction 3. is formed which tends to break down any i accumulation of carbon formed on the edges of each of themembers due to the slight arc when breaking the current.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An electric pushv button havin a removable cap, a base late and a reci rocating plug, an elongated) seating spring iaving at both ends thereof beiided spring sections and in the center thereof a pendant. wedge sect-ion; and a contacting member mounted ....me., f
on said hsiseplnte having an upturned con@ taeting ridge formed t ereon, sind ridge being d is rpendiculnr to the extension of te sai4 wedge section vformed onl said spring. 2. ,Anw e ectriqpushbutton having s reno ping, gn nio g named seat-ing s ring for said plug bnad M the Center (ieri-.of to form u nniluht wedge shnped section und provider ut hotli endsl thereof with opposteiy extended foot pluies, euch of snid footI pluies being: provided ut one end thereof;
with spurs for insertion in Suid bose )hite-y nnd ntl the other end thereof with u per orution lo reeeve structurel fastening devices; nud u Contact, plnte hnvin formed utI one end thereof nn npturned ric gc-lke edge und ut the other end thereof n perforation to rel eeive n structural fastening member, snid ridge-like edge bein" disposed perpendicular g T wedge shnped section,
to theI edge of sul( the said co`ntnct plate nn snid spring ench I being incorporated in the electric circuit.
In testimony whereof I have signed my i nnme to this`spccificntion in the presence of two subscribing: witnesses.
