JOHN W. EBB, OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY.
ROLLING ROOF.
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN W. EBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Campbell and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolling Roofs; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a sections providing a roof embodying fea-' tures of convenience and reliability.
A further object of the invention is to provide in combination with the ordinary rafters of a roof improved track structure and means for operating roof sections mounted upon such track structure.
With these and other objects in view the,
invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully de' scribed and claimed. 1
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section 1 View of the improved roof.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View through two of the roof sections. Fig. 3 is an .enlarged detail view'of the tracks and rollers. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the frame of one of the roof sections. Fig. 5 is an end-elevation of the frame of one of the roof sections.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The present invention is adapted for use with rafters 10 of substantially the usual and ordinary construction and with a stationary roof section 11 spanning the interval between such rafters adjacent the upper ends or ridgepole. The roof section 11 may be of any usual and ordinary construction.
Between the rafters and extending longitudinally thereof are tracks 12 and 13 preferably constructed of angle iron and secured to the rafters in any approved manner as by the nail or fastening member 14.
Any approved number of rolling roof,sec-' tions are provided, as for instance, the-sec:

tions shown as a whole at 15 and 16, con-:
structed preferably of angle iron 17 about three sides of the section, as illustrated at Fig. 4, with cross bars 18 preferably of channel iron, such channel iron construction providing also the bottom or lower cross bar. The sections are also preferably braced by inclined braces 19 for the purpose of rigidity.
Along the sides -ofthe sections are bearing rollers 20 secured to the sections in any approved manner but preferably by means of rivets 21 inserted through the side angle The spacing and positioning of travel upon the lower flange of the angle tracks 13.
The frame constructed as described is preferably covered with any approved covering material, indicated at 22, and flashing 23 is secured upon thetop of the rafters 10 by means of ofi'set' blocks 24.- and ex-. tends down over the upturned angle iron flanges 17. I
To operate the sections, cables 25 are se- .Patented-Oct. 1'7, 1911. I
cured to the upper edges of the same and carried" over rollers 26 which extend down into the structure in position to be engaged by the hand of the operator. 7
I claim i 1. In a roof structure, adjacent rafters, a stationary roof section spanning the interval between the rafters, tracks located upon ad ja'cent faces of the rafters, a roof section mounted to move upon the tracks, means to move the movable section under the stationary section, and a flashing to prevent the passage of water around the edges of .the movable sections.
2. In a roof structure, adjacent rafters, angle iron tracks formed upon the adjacent faces of the rafters, a roof section provided with rollers positioned to travel upon the angle iron tracks, and fiashings carried by the rafters extending over upon the roof section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnessesl JOHN W. ERB. Witnesses: S. F. BROWN,
