To all whom t may concern: j
Be it known that I, ROBERT L. SANDnRsoN, of Niles, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in fall-Plugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an extremely simple and highly eiiicient wall plug, having the coperating yielding sides so connected that while they will permit a nail to be driven between them they will securely hold it throughout its entire length.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures l and 2 are opposite side views. F ig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4 is'a cross sectional View on line 4 4, F ig. l.
Referring to the drawings, l designates a stiff metallic plate which is bent back upon itself along the line 2 and is provided with transversely arranged corrugations 3, the inwardly extending corrugations of the opposite sides abutting against each other. The opposite edges of one side are cut away to form approximately U-shape openings 5, while the corresponding edges of the opposite side have lips 6 struck therefrom by cutting away portions of the metal. These lips are extended through the openings t and are bent down against the outer face of the opposite side, and thereby the two sides of the plug are securely fastened together adjacent to the flared ends 7 between which Specification of Letters Patent.

the nail is designed to be driven. In this way the two sides of the plate are securely held to each other by the two lips struck from one side and overlapping and binding against the other side. The great-- est strain occurs at the point of entrance of the nail, and this strain being cared for by the lips which are immediately adjacent the entrance insures the two sides being firmly united without any additional securing means.
The plug may be readily made by suitable dies, one set cutting out the openings in one side and the other set cutting out portions of the metal at the other side to form the lips, which latter, when the plate is bent back upon itself, are readily and easily bent over the side having the cut outs.
I claim as my invention:
As an article of manufacture, a wall plug composed of a plate bent back upon itself and having o-pposite transverse eorrugations, one side of the plate having openings cut in its opposite longitudinal edges and the other side of the plate having lips struck therefrom which are designed to be projected through said openings and bent into engagementwith the side having such openings within the plane of the edge of such side, said lips and openings being adjacent to the outer ends of the two sides of the plate.
