An insulator comprising a flexible member formed of a silicon compound, an attaching device at the free end thereof, means for supporting said insulating member, a series of individual protecting sections each consisting of a tubular portion having its upper end rounded and provided with a rim, a flaring portion adjacent to its lower end, a socket provided in the underside of Said 'flaring portion having its base eonformed to and adapted to receive the opposite end of an adjoining protecting section, means provided upon the lowermost of said protecting sections adapted to engage the attaching device on said insulating member for supporting said superposed series of protee-ting sections loosely upon and surrounding said insulating member, substantially as specified.
