To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMETT D. ANGELI., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Corvallis, in the county of Benton and State of Oregon, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Exercising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in exercising apparatus, and consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side View, and Fig. 2 is an edge view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a cross section on about line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 illustrates my improved device in use as a dumbbell, Fig. 5, in use as a wand, Fig. 6, in use as an Indian club, Fig. 7 in use as a leg exerciser, and Fig. 8 as an abdominal exerciser.
In the construction shown, my exercising device comprises an elongated bag A, of canvas or leather or other suitable material filled with sand B10, or other suitable substance to give it weight without rendering the same inflexible, and the bag A is provided along its opposite side edges with casings A', open at their ends and preferably formed by stitching at A2 to separate the sides of the bag A from the body portion thereof, and in this casing A I secure a cable B, extending between the ends of the casing at the same ends of the exercising device and forming handles B at the ends of the bag A and extending from side to side thereof, which are convenient when the device is used as an Indian club as illustrated in Fig. 6, of the drawing. These handles B also permit the convenient use of the device as a wand as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, and by providing the handles at both ends the exercising device may be swung from one hand to the other as will be understood from Fig. 6 of the drawing. I also provide the exercising device with end loops C on one side, and with a central loop D on the other side and extending in the direction of length of the bag A, as will be understood from Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. These loops may be of any suitable tape and the single loop D may be entered by the foot in the use of the device as a leg exerciser as shown in Fig. 7, while the end loops C may receive the feet in the use of the device as an abdominal exerciser as shown in Fig. 8 of the drawing. It will be noticed from Fig. 4 that the intermediate loop D may be grasped by the user in the manipulation of the device as a dumbbell.
As best shown in Fig. 3, the bag A is composed of a single sheet bent to produce the intermediate or body portion and the casing at the sides thereof to receive the cables B.
I/Vhile it may be preferred to make the exercising device flexible, as before described, it is manifest the body portion may be made inflexible as for instance, out of wood or metal with the straps as before described.
I claim* 1. The exercising device herein described comprising a bag having longitudinally along its sides casings, and having a cable secured therein and arranged to form handle loops at the ends of the bag, the latter being provided with a pair of foot loops relatively near its opposite ends on one side, and with a central foot loop on its opposite side all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. An exercising device in the form of a bag having handles at its opposite ends and provided along its sides with loops adjacent to its ends for the reception of both feet of the user, and also having a loop intermediate its ends for the reception of one foot of the user all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. An exercising device comprising a body portion, and loop Vhandles alongside said body portion and disposed one midway between and others adjacent to the opposite ends of the body, substantially as set forth.
4. An exercising device in the form of a bag having end handles whereby it may be used as an Indian club or wand, and also having foot loops along its sides, substantially as set forth.
5. An exercising device comprising a bag having casings longitudinally along its side edges and having at its ends cable portions forming handles and held within the casing of the bag substantially as set forth.
