Description

aient mit.
Letters Patent No. 100,565, dated March 8, 1870.
. IMPROVEMENT IN RIDING-SADDLES.
4 l'he Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it may con-cern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE `SPEDDEN7 of Astoria,
in the county of Clatsop, and State of Oregon,.l|ave invented a new and useful Improvement in Saddle- Girting Attachment; andy I dohereby declare that is a full, clear, and exact description.
the 'following thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part ot' this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in appliances for girting saddles to horses and other animals It consists of the combination with the saddle and the gir-t of a'set of pulley-blocks, cord, and cord-hold ing clamp, under such arrangements that the rider may increase or diminish thetension ofthe girt while in the saddle, and accomplish the same more easily than in the com'mon way, by. reason ofthe advantage dueto the use of the pulley-blocks and cord. The :uijnstrnentsy may also` be made Vwhile on the ground equally as well.
V 'lhe drawing represents a side elevation of a saddle, wit-h my improved gil-ting attachment applied to it,-
and partly shown in section. u
A is the fixed pulley-block attached to the saddle B, at the place wherethe strap for buckling the girt in the common way is usually placed. f
It may be connected by a loop, G, and staple D, or
in any other approved way.
E is the movable block, having in this case two sheaves. v 4
The lower end is provided with a hook, and snapspring G, for the connection of the girt H, o1' it may be buckled or otherwise fastened thereto.
I is the cord, hooking over the sheaves in the usualway, and passing from the lower pulley to a spring clamp, L M, attached to the saddle near the pommel, in the most convenient place for reaching by the rider` The saidclamp may, however, be arranged upon the lower pulley-block, or in any other approved place, and other equivalent devices may be used instead of the said clamp. y i Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .The pulley-block A, fastened fxedly to a saddle, as
shown and described, in combination with movable block E, having one or more sheaves thereon, hook F, 'spring G, cord I, and spring clamp L, all constructed and arranged as and for thepurpose specified.
