To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES G. PARxER-' son, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at La Fayette, in the parish of Lafayette and State of Louisiana, have invented certainI new 'and useful Improvements in Fans, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to fans especially adapted for Ventilating and the principal object ofthe same is to provide novel blades for the fan that will distribute air currents in all directions and also to provide novel holding the blades in radiating relation.
A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view of the improved fan. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the blades of the fan, said blades being disconnected. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the blank of the top bracket for the blades. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the bracket'f'formed from theY blank shown in Fig. 4.
The improved fan comprising a casing 6, preferably cylindrical, equipped with supporting feet 7 A motor 8 is centrally arranged in casing' 6 and has a drive shaft 9 proyecting through the top of said casing. The motor 8 has feed wire connections 10 with a source of electricity, not shown. Regularly spaced standards 11 have flat inwardly projecting -feet 12 fastened to the top of casing 6, the upper ends of said standards carrying the arms 13 that radiate from a central bearing plate 14.
The improved fan has been shown as provided with four blades, said blades bein formed of two flat elongated strips of meta 15, one having a central vertical slot 16 that extends from its lower edge, and the other being provided with a slot 17 that extends from its upper edge. The ends of the strips are bent m op osite directions and at an abrupt angle t ereto to provide deflecting ings 18. The two strips 15 are interlocked by means of their slots 16 and 17 to provide the radiating blades and each blade is engaged by the bifurcated corner extensions 19 of the upper and lower flat brackets 20.

The brackets 20 are duplicates, and are formed from single sheets of metal, as shown in Figs. 4 andr 5, the fiat body portions an'd the corner extensions beingformed by one operation of a stamping or punching machine, the body having a central opening 21 formed therethrough and the corner extension being longitudinally-slitted,as invthat they can bey readily shaped for engagement with opposite surfaces of the fan blades.
A socket 23 has its shank 24 suitably fastened within the central opening of the lower bracket and the motor shaft 9 extends into said socket 23 -and is rigidly'fastened therein by the key 25.y A stub shaft 26 projects from the central opening of the upper bracket and is journaled in the bearing plate 14. A lubricator 27 is carried by plate 14 to su ply lubricating material to the bearing t erein.
It will be clear from the foregoing that thebrackets overlap the longitudinal edges of the fan blades at their meeting points and that the bifurcated corner extensions 19 engage opposite surfaces of the said blades, therebyholding said blades against relative movement. It.will also `be clear that the manner of interlocking the strips forming the blades, permits four blades to be obtained from two4 strips, and, further, that .the angular ends of said blades provide siniple means for all directions.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A fan comprising a casing, standards carried thereby, radiating arms carried by said standards,a'bearing plate, a motor in said\ casing and having a shaft projecting' through the top thereof, an upper bracket, a shaft carried thereby and journaled in saidplate, a lower bracket, a socket carried thereby and engaging the motor/shaft, fan blades, and outwardly projecting bifurcated arms extending from the corners of said brackets and engaging said blades.
2. A fan comprising radiating blades, upper and lower brackets formed of a single sheet of metal shaped to provide iat bodies having corner extensions that are bifurcated to engage opposite surfaces of said blades, a support, fan rotating means carried thereby, a socket projecting from the lower bracket and engaging said fan rotating means, standards carried by said support, arms projecting from the upper ends thereof, a
