SPRING-BEARING.

Be it known that I, Forum RAGNAR EHRENFRID TI-IRN, of S Fleminggatan, Stockholm, Sweden, a subject of the King of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Bearings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to a spring cushioned bearing especially intended for separators. A
The same consists of a single metal wire inserted between the shell of the bearing and for example the frame, which wire is bent in zigzag and then bent together to a ring.
Up to the present in such bearings the spring itself has been arranged in such a manner -that the ends thereof have been abutting against the shell and the central part thereof against the frame or vice versa.
In the spring of my invention, only certain of the bends have their ends abutting against the shell of the bearing, while others of the bends abut against frame. Preferably these bends alternate.
More specifically theannular spring comprises a series of vertical curved coils, each pair of said coils being united by straight vertically bent wires. The curved vertical coils are of less length than the straight vertical coils and only one end rests against the sleeve. These shorter coils abut against the frame. The straight vertical coils contact at each end with the shell. If a pressing force be applied to these shorter coils, the free ends are forced inward in proportion to the force applied, and so far as the HeXibility of the coil permits. In this way the upper ends of these coils do not press against the shell. By the inward pressing of the shorter coil the adjacent straight Specification of Letters Patent.

parts partake in the springing movement, whereby the pressure against the free end is somewhat taken up while the bent parts joining the straight parts with the adjacent coils are simultaneously pressed against the shell. By this arrangement thicker wire may be used without decreasing the flexibility of the bearing and consequently a greater durability is obtained.
I will now describe my invention as embodied in the drawings in which- Figure l is a section of a bearing showing my improved spring in elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the spring.

2. An annular supporting spring bent in zig zag to have vertical parts, some of said vertical parts adapted to abut against the frame, while others of said vertical parts are adapted to abut against the shell, some of said vertical parts being straight while others of said vertical parts are curved, the straight parts contacting at each end with the shell while the curved parts contact with the shell at one end only.
