Description

L. M. AINSWORTH.
GOMMODE SEAT.
APPLICATION rnnn AUG. 26. 1910.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
wu'neooeo LUCIAN M. AINSWORTI-I, OF AUSTIN, TEXAS.
COMMODE-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Application filed August 25, 1910. Serial No. 578,849.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUCIAN M. Ams- WORTH, citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Commodo- Seats; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in individual commode or closet seats.
One object of the invention is to provide a series of individual commode or closet seats and means for holding the same whereby any one of them may be readily brought into position for use.
Another object is 'to provide means whereby when not in use the seats may be fastened in the holder by key operated or other suitable form of locks, thus preventing the use of the seats by any one except the person holding the key to the same.
WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved cabinet of seats showing in dotted lines the manner in which the seats are raised from the cabinet and brought into engagement with the seat; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view of the cabinet taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. et is a plan view of one of the seats.
In the embodiment of the invention I provide a cabinet 1 which may be of any desired size and adapted to contain any desired number of seats 2. In the inner walls of the opposite sides of the cabinet are formed a series of vertical oppositely disposed guide grooves 3 with which are engaged guide pins 4 arranged on the opposite side edges of the seats near their lower ends as shown.
In the inner walls of the sides of the cabinet near their upper edges are formed horizontal oppositely disposed guide grooves 5 with which the upper ends of the vertical grooves 3 communicate. The grooves l5 extend across the sides of the cabinet from one end of the same to the other and when any of the seats 2 are drawn up in the cabinet to the dotted line position a shown in Fig. 1 the pins 4 will be brought into engagement with said horizontal grooves thus permitting the seat to be drawn forward toward the bowl and swung down into position thereon, as shown in the dotted line position b in Fig. 1.
The seats 2 are provided on their upper edges with suitable handles 6 whereby they may be readily raised and moved into position to engage the bowl. Each of the seats is also preferably provided with a separate lock 7 which may be of any suitable construction and is adapted to lock the seat in the cabinet so that the-seat may be raised and brought into position for use, only after being unlocked.
By means of my invention a convenient and sanitary arrangement of individual closet or commode seats is provided which can be used only by the person holding the key to the same.
The cabinet containing the seats is preferably arranged at one side of the bowl as.
shown but may be arranged in any other suitable or desired position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A cabinet having in its opposite sides a series of vertical guide grooves, communicating at their upper ends with horizontal grooves, a plurality of seats arranged in the cabinet, guide pins on said seats adapted to engage said grooves whereby the seats will my hand in presence of two subscribing witbe guided when drawn from or pushed back nesses. into the cabinet, handles secured to said 1 r seats and locks arranged thereon whereby LUCIAN AINbVvORFH' the seats may be individually locked in the Vitnesses: cabinet. H. B. BARNHART,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set G. G. BISSELL.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, D. C.
