To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY B. JOHNSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Cans and the Like, of which the following isa specification.
he purpose of my invention is to pr0- vide a can for milk and the like liquids that is strong and easily cleansed, that may be stacked one on top of the other, and within which may be placed a separate receptacle for holding ice or other refrigerant, or within which latter can may be placed cream, oysters or other articles and a refrigerant Within the outer receptacle. These objects I attain by the device illustrated by the accompanying drawings in which similar figures of reference indicate like parts throughout.
Figure 1 is anelevation. of the upper portion of one can, and a vertical section of another placed thereon, and portion of the handles of the first can in section. Fig. 2 is an elevation of two cans, a part v of the upper one cut away.
The can is made from the section of a tube, and the purpose is to construct a can having no soldered seams, and no scams or other rough places that will retain dirt or other impurities. From this section of tubing is spun a part of the bottom rim 1. of the can. The body 2, breast 3, neck 4 and lip 5 of the can is turned, or spun Without a seam. The bottom 6 is secured in said body by locking the flange thereon around and with said rim 1. In spinning the breast 3 and neck 4 of the can the material of the tube forming those sections of the can is spun inward, and when formed as a breast and neck will be thicker and supply greater stability and strength to those parts. The lip 5 has its periphery, formed or spun. formmg an upper rim 10.

an extended annular lip 12, preferably at he same. angle of inclination as said lip 5, and to its upper side is pivoted the handle 13. Any form of fastening and handle may be used that will turn down even with or below the upper edge of said flange 12. The body portion of said inner receptacle 11 is adapted to fit tight Within said neck 4, making a closure therefor. Within the upper portion of said inner receptacle 11 is' tted a cover 14:,'which has secured thereto an ascending handle 15. This cover 14 is also made without a seam or solder, and tightly closes said inner receptacle 11.
On the shoulder of the outer can is fastened the band or hoop 16 in which is provided handle sockets 17, within which sockets are detachably fitted the wedge shaped feet of the handles 18 the body portion of which handle is formed semi-circular in cross sections to receive and retain the rim 1 of the can, that may be superimposed thereon. A spring 19, is medially secured to said band 16 between the two of said sockets 17 Within which the feet of the handle 18 are placed. Each end of each of said springs 19 is formed as a. lug 20 that will enter the depressions .21 one of each of which is provided in the front side of each foot of each handle, the purpose being that when the feet of the handles 18 are inserted into saidsockets 17, the lugs 20 will enter the said depressions 21, and lock said handles into said band 16. i
When the outer can with its band the inner can and cover is formed as above described, it is then recovered with tin, thus forming a can that can be washed. and cleansed inside and outside by machinery, and when assembled will hold milk and the like, in the outer can, and crushed ice and other refrigerant in the inner can, or this may be reversed, as both are equally sanitary.

In an article of manufacture the comsprings carrying at the terminals thereof a pin adapted to be projected into said her openings, and handles retained in said sockets by the pins aforesaid.
