APPARATUS FOR DRESSING CONTAINING GOLD AND SILVER.

vide an improved apparatus for dressing ores, particularly those containing gold and silver, according to the process forming the subject-matter of my copending application filed May 12,1910, Serial No.560,880.
One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented, by Way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 shows-my apparatus in vertical section, Fig. 2 the same in end elevation, and Fig. 3 the same in plan; Fig. 4 is a section on the, line in Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the mixing device.
Referring to the drawing, the ore, which has been preliminarily worked up to pieces about mm. in diameter in Well-known manner on large stone breakers and similar machines, passes from the feed hopper 1 onto a rotating plate Qwhich supplies it in uniform quantities to the inlet pipe 3 of the mill. This mill comprises three principal parts, namely, the two drum or tubularinill chambers 4 and 7 and a mixing apparatns 10.
i In tl chamber 4, Which works with steel. balls, the ore is preliminarily (llSll'llOgItllGtl to a degree 01" fineness which,approximately corresponds'to fine sand. The. chambers 4- and 7 are separated from one another by a double wall 5, 6. The purpose of this double Wall is to convey under specially favorable conditions the preliminarily disintegrated ore into the lsecond grinding chamber 7 which likewisd has steel balls. The Wall I has its overflow orifices more at its outer iiO periphery, While in the Wall (3 only one or more orifices are provided in the center thereof. The inaterial'will thus issue from chambers through the outer portion of wall 5 but pass from the center of wall 6 into chamber 7. The chamber a has a. larger diameter' than the chamber '4' which latter,
however, is considerably longer than. the former. New in this chamber 7 the entire quantity of ore containing precious metal is ground to a high degree, of fineness.
In order to obtain the desired degree of line ness with relatively little power and in the shortest time, an admixture of water with the ore before the commencement of thegrinding operation until its completion admissible only in. the ratio of about 33},% as indicated above. Consequently, in the chamber '7 a thick slime of the very finest particles is produced containing approximately 33,171 of water, which, in this condition would not be adapted to be conveyed, without special mechanical auxiliary means, into the lixiviation plant, or, lastly, onto amalgamating tables, because, in eonse-' quence of its small percentage of water, it is lacking in the essential capability of flowing readily. Now in order that thistinely ground ore may nevertheless possess this capability before it leaves the mill, it is subjected to another special treatment in the apparatus 10 which is connected to the chamber 7. This apparatus 10 preferably has a larger diameter than the chamber 7 and preferably comprises a cylindrical drum whose central orifice is limited by a collar-like portioi'rl3; this apparatus is scparated from the chamber 7 by a perforated wall 8, whose orifices 9 (Figs. 1, 4 and 5) with the aid of a tunnel-shaped portion 11 form the limited connection between charm her 7 and drum '10. A. water pipe 12-, whose outlet may be formed, if desired, as a sprinkler, opens into the drum 10 and continuously supplies about'lOlPSOO)? water to the thick slime which issues from the oritices Qand is distributed by the part onto the periphery of the drum. As the drum l0 rotates with the mill during this operation and theslimc is held in the drunnthe same is mixed intimately with water and converted into a thin pulp. This pulp then flows through the part 13 into the channel 14: which conducts it to the lixivia tion plant.
. For increasing the mixing action in the drum 10 ribs 16 or the like are arranged at certain intervals on the inner periphery of the drum Fig. 4). Other auxiliary means, however, may be arranged for obtaining a mixing action.
