MAX MEIROWSKY, oF coLoGNELINnENTHAL, GERMANY.
APPARATUS FOR PREPARING MICA SHEETS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I MAX MEIRoWsKY, ay
subj ect of the King of Prussia, German E1nperor, residing at Cologne-Lindenthal, iny the Province 0f the Rhine, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Apparatus for Preparing Mica Sheets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for preparing mica sheets.
It is already known to make mica sheets from a number of separate pieces by picking up the pieces by means of` a sieve or the like 'operated under the action of air suction and causing the layer of mica to fall upon a surfacey provided with the cementing material. It has also been proposed to effect theapplication of the mica pieces by means of at bellows. But vboth these processes do not effect auniform deposit of the mica pieces upon the surface provided with the cementing material.
According to the present invention, the absolutely 4uniform deposit of the mica pieces is effected by the arrangement that these pieces, although picked. up by aid of aspirated air, are dellvered to the place of use by means of compressed air, that is to say, are again released from the sieve or the like and are pressed upon the cementing surface by means of compressedl air. l
For the carrying `out of this process, use is preferably made of a rotary hollow cylinder provided with small perforations by which the mica pieces are picked up by means of aspirated air, and are.then'pre sented to the strip or surface passed close by it and are at the proper moment again released and pressed against the side surface by means of compressed air, For this purpose there is provided in the -interior of the hollow cylinder a suction and a compression air chamber. y
Figure l illustrates diagrammatically the arrangement of construction of the invention, while Figs. 2 and 3 show the cylinder provided with the suction and pressure` chamber separately.
The rotating perforated hollow cylinder a Serial No. 615,946.
lamentedsept. 12 1911-1;
incloses a stationary inner-cylinder` bin the 'il periphery of which, two openings c -and 'd are made. The chamber o is connected to a pressure :tube of the chamber d to. an aspirating'pipe. When the hollow cylinderis turned in the direction indicated by the arrows on thesel figures, then fresh parts of rits surface are constantly presented during the rotation of the two chambers respectively under the inuence of the compression and the aspiration air, whereb under the iniiuence of the suction the particles are picked up from the transporting band and passed close to the surface moving forward over the drum blown from the cylinder under the influence of the pressure chamber connected therewith. This surface has been previously covered with adhesive material by means of the roller liso that the particles blown against it yremain adherent.
The arrangement of the two chambers in cqnnection with the requisite suction and pressure pipes is shown in Figs.- 2 and 3.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature ofmy said inven. tion and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
Apparatus for preparing mica-sheets com- ,prising a.` peripherally foraminous, hollow outer cylinder, an inner cylinder about which said outer cylinder is revoluble, said inner cylinder having a longitudinal, suction air chamber within one side thereof, and av longitudinal, air pressure chamber through its centralpart, connection between said pressure chamber and said outer cylinder adjacent said suction chamber, means to present mica particles to the influence of said suction chamber, means for moving adherent sheets before the air pressure outlet, and means for connection with air suction and air pressure mechanism.
In testimony, whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
u MEIROWSKY.
