DRAFT EQUALIZBR. APPLICATION `FILED JUNE 17, 1911.4

Be it, known that I,y IVERsoN TEDDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at of Bell andState of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Equalizers, of which the following is a specification.
The draft device which is the' subject of the present invention is-designed for workr tween the tongues 7 and ing three horses abreast so that each horse can walk between the rows'iwhen plowing or planting, and to this "end it consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
The invention also has for its object to provide a pivoted draft tongue and improved means for operating the same.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention, partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. y
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the wheels of a planter, plow, or other agricultural implement to which the invention is applied, and 6 denotes the axle of said wheels. Rigidly secured to the axle 6, midway between the ends thereof, is a stub tongue 7 extending forwardly from the axle, and carrying the main tongue 8.
The following connection is provided be- 8: To one side of the tongue 7 is bolted or otherwise rigidly fastened a brace 9 having a lateral extension 10 terminating 'in forwardly and* rearwardly extending branches 11 and .12, respectively. To the branch l1` is bolted or otherwise rigidly secured a short supporting beam or `block 13 on top of which the tongue 8 is pivoted as indicated at 14, the pivot being arranged to permit the tongue to swing sidewise. The branch 12 is fastened to the axle 6 by a clip 1'5. A brace 16 is also secured to the forwarden'd of the tongue 7, and extends sidewise across the butt end of the tongue 8 behind the pivot 14, and thence extends downwardly to 'one side of the tongue and the supporting beam, it being made fast by a bolt or other suitable fastening 17 passingA through the branch 11 and the supporting beam. A spacing block 18 is interposed between the brace and the branch. This block spaces the downturned portion of the brace from the butt end of the tongue 8 and permits'its sidewise swing.
A toggle connection is provided between Specification of Letters Patent.. Patented S vApplicationfiled June 17, 1911.y Serial'No. 633,664.

the butt ofthe tongue. A '8, said connection, comprising pivotally con@ nected links 19, one of vsaid links beingcongle connection swings "the'tongue8 sidewise? uponoperating the hand lever, and the tongue is locked in adjusted position upon locking thehand lever.
The forward end of the tongue 7 carries a draft tree .23 to the ends of which are connected evenerbars 24 which latter carry swingle-trees 25 at their outer ends. tween the swingle-trees 25 is located a swingle-tree 26 which is connected by links 27 to the inner ends of the evener bars. The
swingle-tree 26 and one of the swingle-trees Q5 are located on one side of the tongue 8,'
-and the other swingle-tree 25 is located on the other side of the tongue.
At the forward end of the tongue 8 is a lever 28 which is pivoted midway between its ends to the outer end of the bracket 29 secured tothe tongue 8 and extending from that side thereof.
on which the swingle-tree 26 and its companion swingle-tree 25 are located. This lever carries neck yokes 30 at its ends.4 The adjacent ends of the neck yokes carry rings 31 for attachment of the breast straps of one of the draft animals, and t-he other ends of the neck yokes carry rings 32 for attachment of the breast straps of the other two draft animals. It will be noted that the rings 31 and one of the rings 32 are located on the same side of the tongue 8 as the swingle-tree 26and its companion swingle-tree 25, and that the' other ring 32 is located on the other -side of the tongue. This arrangement enables one of the animals to be hitched on one side of the tongue and the other 'two animalson the other side, and itis therefore possible to wor-k three horses abreast so that each horse,
can walk between the rows when plowing or planting, and the draft is evenly distributed.
The invention is without complicated parts, and can be readily applied to any implement having adraft tongue, it being necessary only to 'cut off a portion of said ton'gue, the eut off portion being then con braces herein described'.v` I
