UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIQE.
OSCAR BOY DUNCAN, OF JEFFERSON, IOWA.
GUN-LICENSE-CERTIFICATE HOLDER.
Application filed February 23, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR R. DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jefferson, in the county of Greene and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Gun License Certificate Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to gun license cer tificate holders, and it has for its object to provide a license certificate holding receptacle, which is attached to the gun so that the hunter may be certain to have the license certificate with him every time he takes his gun to go hunting. The receptacle is attached to the gun barrel by a clamp having two arms which are curved and are disposed against the outer side of the gun barrel or barrels, the clamp arms being h ld against the gun barrels by a screw member.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred term of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference-denote corresponding parts in all the views, in Which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a por tion of a double barrel shot gun provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the holder; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the draw member withdrawn from the receptacle; Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of a double barrel shot gun provided with my improvement; and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional View of a single barrel gun provided with my improvement.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a cylindrical receptacle 5 is provided having a head 6 at one end, the other end being open. Normally disposed in the said cylindrical receptacle 5 there is a drawer member 7, having a head or end member 8, which is normally disposed to close the open end of the cylindrical receptacle 5. There are guideways 9 in the sides of the cylindrical receptacle 5, guide members 10 on the drawer member 7 being provided for traveling in the said guideways. The license certificate is inserted in the drawer member 7, and when the said drawer member is disposed in the cylindrical receptacle 5 it is held securely and is protected from the weather.
A coil spring 11 is inserted in the end of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1911.
Serial No. 610,410.
the cylindrical receptacle 5, the said coil spring pressing against the cylindrical receptacle, the drawer member 7 being held in place by the catch member 12, having a shank 13, which is secured to the bottom of the cylindrical receptacle The catch 12 is disposed through an opening 14 in the cylindrical receptacle 5, and the point or end or the said catch 12 engages the end of an opening 15 in the drawer member 7, to hold the drawer member 7 in place relatively to the cylindrical member The cylindrical receptacle 5 is attached to the gun barrels 16 by a clamp member 17, the clamp member 17 having a U-shaped portion 18, which is disposed around the cylindrical receptacle 5, the terminals of the clamp member 1.7 extending outwardly and being curved as at 19, so that one may be disposed against the outer side of each of the barrels 16 of the double barrel gun. A screw member 20 is provided, which is dis posed through an orifice 21 at one side of the clamp 17, the said screw member 20 meshing in a threaded orifice 22 in the other side of the clamp 17. It will therefore be seen that when the screw member 20 is turned relatively to the clamp 17 it will draw the sides of the clamp together so that the cylindrical receptacle 5 will be pressed between the sides of the clamp and at the same time the bent portions 19 of the clamp 17 will be drawn in the direction of each other, and against the gun barrel 16. In this manner the cylindrical receptacle 5 is held firmly in place relatively to the gun barrel 16.
WVhen the device is to be attached to a single barrel gun the bent portions 19 of the clamp 17 are disposed against opposite sides of the gun barrel 23, the U-shaped portion 18 of the clamp 17 being disposed around the cylindrical receptacle 5 in the manner described. When the screw 20 is then turned relatively to the clamp 17 the curved portions 19 of the clamp 17 will be drawn against the opposite sides of the gun barrel 23, and the device will be held firmly relatively thereto.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following:
1. In a gun license certificate holder a receptacle having a guideway, an open end and an additional opening spaced from the open end, a drawer member having a guide for traveling in the guideway normally disposed in the receptacle and having a head for closing the open end of the receptacle, and an opening spaced from the head normally in register with the opening in the receptacle spaced from the open end thereof, and a spring catch secured to the receptacle extending through the last-mentioned opening and engaging the end of the opening in the drawer member spaced from its head.
2. In a gun license certificate holder a receptacle having a guideway, an open end and an additional opening spaced from the open end, a drawer member having a guide for traveling in the guideway normally disposed in the receptacle and having a head for closing the open end of the receptacle, and an opening spaced from the head normally in register with the opening in the receptacle, a catch secured to the receptacle extending through the last-mentioned opening and engaging the end of the opening in the drawer member, spring means in the receptacle for ejecting the drawer member, a clamp member disposed around the receptacle having arms and terminals disposed opposite each other, and a screw member in the orifice for holding the arms relatively to each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OSCAR ROY DUNCAN.
