CHAIN-GUIDE FOR ELECTRICAL PULL-SOCKETS.
recanti.
Application filed .Tune 2,
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1911.
1911. serial no. 630,953.
To all whom it may concern:
3e it known that I, EDGAR H. FREEMAN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chain-Guides for Electrical PultSockets, of which the following is a specification. y
This invention relates to an improvement in chain guides. for electrical pull sockets of the type wherein the guide will normally perform all of the functions of properly guiding the chain of a. pull switch, while at the same time entirely obviating theV necessity of threading the pull chain through the guide by permitting it to be entirely freed from confinement through simple manipulation of the guide, which is so constructed as to be openable laterally in the direction of its length.
With these and other objects in View,
which will be readily apparent; to those skilled in the art, the invention consists in the novel construction, combinatlon and arrangement of parts hereinafter more particularly described, illustrated and claimed.
lVlnle susceptible to embodiment in various ways by use of different mechanical equivalents, the invention is exemplified by the preferable form thereof shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is an external View of an electrical pull socket casing fitted with a guide constructed in accordance with the present imention. l'fig. 2 is an elevation of the shell member of the socket casing showing the guide opened to admit. of the laying in and removal of the pull chain at any portion of the length of the latter, the illustration in Fig. l showing the chain guide closed to perform its normal functions. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view fully illustrating the guide in its relation to the socket casing, and the pull switch therein. Fig. fl is an enlarged cross-sectional View on the line lf-4f of Fig. Q, illustrating more plainlytheprefrrred manner of constructing the two-part guirle body to admit of the same being opened and closed at will, whereby the chain can be laid in and removed laterally. -Fig. 5 is a detail in perspcctiveof the two-part guide body showing the separate members thereof in detached or separated relation.
Like reference.' designate corresponding parts in theseveral figures of the drawings.
The improved chain ,guide forming the subject-matter of this application comprises suitable supporting means, and a guide body, so constructed that the same is openable laterally and also readily closable, the lateral opening of the guide body admitting the laying in and removal of the ull chain -at any point of thel length of tie latter,
while the closure feature of the guide body enables the same to successfully perform all of the functions of the conventional onepiece pull chain guide or horn, such as -com- A signed to be carried upon.A any convenient part of the socket casing or switch body therein, but in the embodiment shown the outer bell member l of the guide body is preferably formed at its inner or smaller end with an attaching iiange or plate 3 adapted to be biazed, riveted, clenched or otherwise suitably fastened to the shell member i of the socket casing, and in such' a position as not to interfere with the usual and proper mounting of the socket cap 5. Aside from itsl mode of fastening to the casing or other partof the electrical socket, the outer bell member l of the guide body formed inits side and. longitudinally thereof with a chain slot G, through which the pull chain is inserted and removed, and a corresponding and similarly diposcd slot 'Z is provided in the side of the inner bell inember Q which is rotatively nested inside of the outer bell member l. rl`he said inner bell member 2 snugly, though rotatively, tits within its companion and similarly shaped. outer bell member l, and may be held against displacement from this relation by any suitable means, such, for instance, by a retaining flange S turned from the outer edge of the nicmber 2 over the outer edge of the member l, which holding means may be supplemented by an expanded holding bead 9 provided in the inner end of the mcni ber Q, as plainly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing, but either or both of these means ually to bring the two slots 6 describeddoes not 'interfere V part j:body having ll0tlroigh the eye ofthe guide, 'and is oppof sitely associated with the pull switch S carried by the switch body B located Within the socket casing and of any construction.
It will be apparent that theconstruction `with the cap mounting and fastening.
I claim :9- l, 1. A pull chain guide comprising arguide body havingaJ lateral [opening and aclosure 20 therefor.
2. A pull 'chain guide comprising a leterf ally Aopenable body having :a manually operable closure. 1 3. pull chain guide comprising a tvvoa chain `,slot and closing means therefor. r /f 4. A pull chain guide comprising an outer member having a c/hain slot and 'an inner 5. A pull chain guide comprising ,an outer memberhavi'ng a chain slot and an inner member also having a chain slot and arranged to operate as a closure for the slot in the outer member. Y.
6. A pull-chain guide comprising an outer member having inits side a longltudinally disposed slot, and an inner member rotatively mounted Wit-hin the outer member. v
7. 'A`pull chain guide-:comprising an outer member having a chain slot, and an inner member having a chain sloft, said inner'member being rotatively lnested within the outer member.
8. A pull chain guide comprising an outer bell member having.,- a longitudinally disposed chain slot and an inner bell member having asimilar 'slot Iand rotatively interlocked with the outelgfinember.
Intestimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence oftwo Witnesses.
