UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERTRAIVI A. DE LANCEY, OF J'OLIET, ILLINOIS.
HINGE-FASTENER.
To (LZ2 whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTRAM A. DE LANCEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinge-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a device for fastening or holding that part of a door hinge that would, otherwise, have to be screwed or otherwise fastened directly to the door jamb.
Many houses and public and business buildings have storm doors for the winter season, which are removed in the spring and replaced with screen doors, and the object of my invention is to obviate the screwing and unscrewing of hinges to the jambs of such doors, which lacerates and practically destroys such jambs, and instead, to furnish a device which when attached to a door jainb will securely hold that part of the hinge, which otherwise would have to be screwed into the door jamb, and thus preserve the door j ambs and furnish a quick and convenient method for attaching and removing storm and screen doors. I am aware that patents have been obtained on hinge fasteners, but in each case, the fastener is a part of a combination hinge and fastener, or the fastener is so constructed that it can be used only with a specially constructed hinge, while my invention is so constructed that the leaf of any ordinary door hinge can be securely fastened with it, it not being essential that said leaf should lill the recess in the fastener, either as to length, width or depth, but only, that the leaf be introduced into the recess, and be fastened by one, two or all of the screw bolts, according to the size or length of the leaf. I attain this object by Specication of Letters Patent.

Patented Sept. 5, 1911. Serial No. 592,114.
the contrivance or mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure l is a perspective view; Fig. 2 is a top View and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
The holder 1 is fastened to the door jamb or casing 5 by the screws 8 through the perforations 9. It is preferable in most cases to have between the holder 1 and the wooden surface to which it is to be attached, a thin sheet of metal with perforations coinciding Iwith the perforations in holder 1. The hinge-leaf 2 is introduced into the holder 1 and held firmly by screwing inward the screw-bolts 6 through the threaded perforations 7.
The drawing, which is not aA working drawing, shows the hinge-leaf 2 in contact with the wooden surface of casing 5, but where it is desirable, said thin sheet of metal will be used for a rest for the hinge-leaf 2, especially where the j amb or casing is made from wood softer than hard-oak. A working drawing would show, in contrast with the drawing, the side of the holder l over the hinge-leaf 2cut away so that the hinge could have the necessary latitude for swinging the door.
What I claim is- In a hinge-holder, the rectangular openbacked bracket adapted to be secured to the surface of the door j amb by two end flanges and perfo-rated for securing screws to force the leaf of the hinge against the j amb.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BERTRAM A. DE LANCEY.
