CARRIAGE STOPS ron TYPE wm'rnns. APYLIOATIOE FILED IALG, 1911.
Patented Aug. 29, 1911.
aprnnr OFFICE. f
marines-seeps roa-v r i ii ivhirnns;
I of estinount; both in the Province of Quebec, Canada; have invented certain new and nset-n1 lmprovements in (.arriage-Stops for 'ly p ellli 'iters; and we do hereby declare that tlie following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention has for its object to provide for typewriting machines adjustable tabulator stops adapted to be completely disengaged from the tabulator bar and assume a position conveniently near the lat tcr where they are always available and out of the way of the working parts of the typewriting machine. For full comprehension, however of our invention reference must be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts and wherein Figure 1 is a rear view of the carriage and carriage frame illustrating the newtabulator stops and their carrier; and Fig. 2 is a detail transverse sectional view of the tabulator bar and the means for connecting the tabulator stopsthereto. Fig. 3 'is a plan view illustrating [nu-tieularly the connection between the stop carrying bar and the tabulatoi' bar.
This invention relates to typewriters of that type covered by United States patent application filed November 0, 1908 Serial No. 41-61840 of which this is a divisional part. v
The carriage supporting frame is indioated at '7), the tabulator bar at c, the supports for the latter atd, and the platen at 11'; The tabnlator bar is toothed. on its front and rear sides as at c and carries a rod {2 extending parallel to and a short distance from the rear of the tabulator bar to within a short distance of the opposite ends of the latter where it rigidly s mported by I'm-ans ()'f ZLHllH f, formed by bending the opposite ends of the bar at ri'glit angles to itself, and inserting the same in the tabulator bar. the said rod being of greater length than the scale on such iabnlator bar. (.larrird loosely by thcbar are a number of sto s 1 (!:\('ll :l'asllaied at one rnd to the rod by n.cans o,l.' an enlarged eye /& and having 461 840? 'fii'vided and this app Means ma was ii.
one-edge f the tud inallyoftheItabnla'tor bar. The eys'ee these stops 9 are of sulliciently larger diameterthan'the guide-rod c, to enable them to be moved laterally with relation to the said bar, readily set in place on the tabu-' lator bar, removed therefrom and shifted along the bar to different positions .with relation to the tabulator bar. The advanta e of thus attaching the stops adjacent to the tabnlator bar being that the stops are prevented from becoming lost and are always available, being suspendedifrom the guidebar catlhe rear of the machine and out of the way hi? the working parts of the latter.
\Vhat we claim is as follows 1. In a typewriter the combination with tabulator mechanism inehiding tabulator stops,-of a stop carrying bar parallel to the tabulator bar and having the tabulator stops suspended therefrom, the'stops being each formed with an eye encircling the stop carrying bar, such eye being of greater extent than the diameter of the stop oarryin bar so as to permit the stop to be move laterally with relation to the stop carrying bar, engaged with and disengaged rom the tabulato'r bar while still connected to the stop earrving bar.
2. In a typewriter the combination with tabulator mechanism including tabnlator ti stops when it is desired to -dia v H .1'ecessedas'at 71." at its opposite -ei1d5'5 to engage bet\\-'een-the teeth of the tabul-atd -ii steps, of a stop carrying bar parallel to the tabulator bar 9nd having the tabulator stops suspended llH'Y-JIFl'Olll, such stops being each Formed with an eye of suilieient diameter to permit. the stop to be moved laterally with relation to the stop carrying bar, engaged and disengaged from the tabulator barwhile still connected to the stop carrying bar; arms formed with the stop carrying bar and having their ends inserted in the tabulator bar.-
labah'rtor nuaehanism including tabulator stops, of a stop carrying bar parallel to the tabulator ba and having the tabulator stops suspemlod thereitron'i, such steps being each formed with an eye of suilicieut diameter to permit the stop to be moved laterally with 3. [n a typewriter the combination with.
relation to the stop carrying bar, enga ed carrying bar, arms f formedby bending the and disconnected from the tabulator fiar opposite ends of the bar e at right angles while still c0nnectedto' the stop carrying to itself and having the'ends o fi th'e said bar, arm's formed integrally wlth and at arms inserted in the tabulafior bar. from the ri ht angles to the carrying bar by means of rear side and near the opposite ends thereof w ich it is rigidly supported by and spaced by means of which the carrying bar is from the said tabulator bar. spaced from and rigidly supported by the 4. In a typewriter, the combination with tabillator bar. tabulator mechanism including tabulator In testimony whereof, we have signed stops of a stop carrying bare parallel to our names to this specification, in the presthe ta ulator bar and having the tabulator ence of two subscribing witnesses.
stops suspended therefrom such sto s having eyes h of sufiicientlydargerdiameter thanthe bar 6 to enable them to be moved laterally with relation to the said bar, 'en- Witnesses: v gaged with and disen aged from the tabu- CHAS.
