Be it known that I, JAMES MELVIN JONES, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at 22 King lVilliam street, in the city of Hamilton, in the county of Vent-worth, 1n the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Safety-Guard, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a safety guard and it has more particular reference to that type of device which is adapted for use upon punching, stain ing, cutting, embossing and drawing presse and similar machines as a safe uard against the operators fingers or hands getting caught when the operative parts are brought into use.
My invention has special referenceto the gate and its appurtenant parts which are moved up and down in front of the operative parts by means of a fulcrumed lever and it has for its objects to provide a gate for safety guards for stamping presses and the like which is adjustable laterally and vertically to adaptitself to different widths and sizes of presses or machines, while at the same time it effectively guards the ends of the dies or cutters. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which Figure 1, is an elevation of the complete guard as attached to the fulcrumed lever which raises and lowers the same. Fig.2, is a top plan of the same. Fig. 3, is an end view looking to the left of Fig; 1. Fig. 4, is a de tail view of the sliding block which couples the safety guard to the fulcrumed lever. Fig.

In order that my invent-ion may be clearly understood I will now describe the same in conjunction with the above specified drawings, which exemplify one embodiment thereof as applicable for use on a stamping press of any of the ordinsf ry and well known types. a

From the foregoing description it will be seen that by my invention, I have effected a very great improvement in safety guards of the type referred to, perfect adj ustability in all directions being provided, and at the same time when the several parts are properly adjusted rigid locking thereof is positively insured.
In practice I have found the improved safety guard extremely effective for the purposes specified, and I do not;limit myself to the specific details of construct-ion particularly described and shown, many alterations and various other combinations thereof being possible without in any way departing from the field and scope of the invention, and it is intended to include all such within this application, wherein only the preferred form has been exemplified.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination wit-h the fulcrumed lever of a safety guard for machines of the types hereinbefore specified, of a bar one edge of which is adapted for interlocking cooperation with the aforesaid fulcrumed lever, means for coupling said parts in interlocking relation, a laterally adjustable block adapted for rigid fixture on the said bar and carrying a vertically adjust-able arm, means for maintaining said arm rigid when adjusted, a second block securely fixed to the lower end of said vertically adjustable arm,
and laterally adjustable screen members -.carried by said block, substantially as set forth for the purpose specified.
