PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A RESISTIVE ,PAPEB MASS FOB INDUSTRIAL runrosns.
F 1,001,446, r Specification of Letters Patent.
Application and December 24, 1910. Serial No. 599,151. r
No Drawing.
" To all whom it may concern.
lie it known that I, STEFAN Rampixri ltu-iniazn, a subject of the King of Hungary, -.".,i"e sidiug at Ulltii Budapest, Austrian i .ll,ungury, have inven ed certain new and pilu'sef ul .Improvemeutsiu Processes for the Manufacture 'of a Resistive Paper Mass for Industrial l?ll1poses, ()f which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is a process for the manufacture of a paper mass which can be quickly and easily molded,
which becomes tough and 'hard after drying, and is lighter than soft wood, so that it can be technically worked in any suitable manher. As the raw material to be; worked in the process, such as waste paper or any other suitable paper, as well as the process of product obtained'can' be employedior. the most varied industrial :purposes'l' 'f-" 's THG' :Ifi8nl1 e lf of. trying the process into practice is the tollowingq 'lhe pa'peris softened for a relatively long timej-tpreferabl'y-P-for' 24 hour'sqimcold-w ater, andthen thoroughly boiled. After-boiling the paper mass is again softened injoold water-for a relatively long time preferably for24 hours,
. compression process.
-trated starchsolution is added to t e now finely divided paper mass, which may r bleached by any suit-able well-known bleach ing process for the purpose of destroying theicol or caused by the impurities, an thereupon a littlewater-glass and chlorid of zinc dissolved in water and zinc oxid is admixed to the mass. After adding these admixtures, the mixture is thoroughly kneaded, whereupon a plastic clay-likemu': 4.1'GSllltS which, can be molded or cast in any desired manner by hand mo1ding or by stamping in molds or-byspressmg between manufacture are extremely-inexpensive, the

tremely tough.-' The dried mass or thecastings can be worked in any suitable mariner; for instance, they can'be turned, ground or polished. 1' I The mass produced according to the new process is suit-able 'for the production of fancy articles, articles for decorationand toys; if it isimpregnated wit-hany suitable waterproof renderin impregnating means, then it is'also suitable for theproduction of building blocks, tiles andthe like articles ofuse. I 1 I By the admixture of suitable filling'mzv terials the properties of the paper masscan be altered according to a givenpurpose.
For instance, the mass may be made-fireproof by the admixture of asbestos or by impregnating the castings in-an'y suitable manner known for this purpose; Bymeans of this "at the same time a greater rigidityof the nass'can be obtained, and by the addition of gypsum, cement-,1 lime} ,sand, natural or artificial stonepo'wder or the like,
and by the addition of any well-known waterproof rendering means a tough and correspondingly heavymass can be obtained, which is especially suitable for archi} tectural purposes, and from which building blocks, roofing tiles and the like can be pressed. The paper m'ass can also be suit ably colo'redlbyadmixing suitable 'die stuffs soluble in ter.
The mass btained by the new prooess has go a further vet'y valuable" property, in as far as it is a very good electrical insulator and can replace the hithertqusual very e gensive ebonite-porcelain-marbletablets an the like insulators. The amount and the.property of the admixtpres can be varied according to ;t e purposes in view, and the-materials mentioned can be replaced by other materials acting in a similar manner without 'fallin away from the scope of the present invent on.
A apermass of the following composition 18S proved suitable :-1 k waste or any other paper. 3 dkg.- of nluted glue solution. 1 kg. of a diluted starch solution. 1 kg.,of a cencentrated starch solution. 1
. of water-glass, chlorid of zinc dissolved in water and zinc oxid.
What I claim as new ,and.'desire to se curebv Letters Patent is 1. The process of manufaoturing plastic znaterialfwhiehconsists in softenin paperin gold Water, then boil the soften'e paper In water-then further softenjhe mass in cold water, disintegrate the mass and oom-. press it to remove the water, gain disin -tegrate the: mass and add glu'e water and' a,
tarchsolution',water-glas and chlorid of zinc dissolved in wg-ter'and -zinc oxid, kn'e ad .the mass and then dry the mass.
2. The process of-manufactuping plastic material,which consists in softenin 1 kg. of waste paper in cold water, then il the softened-paper in water, ;then disintegrate themmass and @mpress 1t to remove the Water, again disintegrate, the mass and add 3 dk .-o diluted glue solution, 1 kg. diluted stare solution, 1 of water glass, chl 0 I rid" of zinc dissolved in Water; and zinc .oxid, knead the mass and drzghe some;
' 8. The process of man'ufa ring. plastic ma'terial, which consists in softenin paper in cold water, then boil the softcne paper ,inwater, then 'further soften the mass in .oold water,g disintegrate the'mass and oomres it to remove the water, again disintegrate-the mass and add 'glilewater and a ,starch solution water-glassgndchlor-id' of zinc dissolged m wgtel and zinc oiid', gyp- 'sum, oe nentjfa sbestos, knead the mass, -'and then dry; the mass.
' In testimon 'yghcreof I aflix my signature in presence 0 two witnexesg.
