BENJAMIN JESSE HARRELIJ, OF EASTMAN, AND WILLIAM LEVI HARRELL, 0F DOUGLAS, GEORGIA.
WASHING-MACHINE.
Application filed January 21, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, BENJAMIN J. HAR- RELL and WILLIAM L. HARRELL, citizens of the United States, residing at Eastman and Douglas, in the counties of Dodge and Coffee, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing Machines; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in washing machines and consists in the provision of means having various details of construction and. combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the boiler and rotary cylinder. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the rotary cylinder removed, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the rotary cylinder.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a boiler which may be of any size or shape and of any material and in the walls of which a shaft B is journaled, to which the disks F are fixed and intermediate said disks, which, with the connected parts, form the cylinder of the machine, is disposed a series of rods I-I arranged in the shape of a whirl or spirally disposed, as shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
Positioned adjacent to one end of said series of rods is a rod K fixed to the circumferences of the disks and designed for the Specification of Letters Patent.

purpose of rooting under the clothes contained within the semi-cylindrical receptacle N so that they may be raised easily and prevented from hanging as the drum is rotated. Said receptacle, made of any suitable material, preferably galvanized iron, has an aperture in the bottom thereof registering with an opening in a strap 0, which latter has its ends bent to form hooks Q which engage over the opposite edges of the boiler, thus forming a support for the strap, it being understood that the receptacle is in turn supported by the strap.
A lid or cover R is provided for the boiler, thus forming means for containing the steam generated from the water within the boiler while the cloths are being washed.
By the provision of a washing machine made in accordance with the foregoing invention, it will be noted that, by the spiral arrangement of the rods, the clothes will be raised and thoroughly agitated as rotary movement is imparted to the cylinder.
What we claim to be new is A washing machine comprising a boiler, a semi-cylindrical receptacle mounted therein, a strap upon which said receptacle is supported, the ends of the strap bent to form hooks and engaging over the marginal edge of the boiler, a shaft journaled in suitable bearings in the latter, disks fitted to said shaft, a series of rods arranged in spiral form intermediate said disks and fastened BENJAMIN JESSE HARRELL.
