SHOE FOR vAcUUM-onnANnRs.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORA DRAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes for Vacuum-Clean- My invention relates to shoes tor vacuum cleaners, and is an improvement on the shoe shown and claimed in my application, Ser. No. 594,127.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a vacuum machine partially sectioned and having my improved shoe attached thereto and cross sectioned at about its ',middle. Fig. 2 is a plan view of ,the shoe alone, and Fig. 3 is a bottom view thereof.
In the aforesaid application I show a shoe of substantially diamond shape in plan and closed top, sides and bottom except'that point to point in the bottom and a suction outlet in its top. proceeds on identically the former one with the essential difierencefhowever, that'the shoe, indi cated by S, is. provided not only with a slot- 2 lengthwise between its extremities but has slots 3 along its sides through the bottom,- the said slots bein parallel with said sides or side ortions. his places said slots 3 in relation conforming to the shape same lines astlie being separated by the slot 2" and are single and complete in themselves witih a portion of stock or webbing at each on In ra'ctice I have found it desirable to have hese supplemental slots near the side edges of the shoe because it both increases the inlet area of the openings and anticiates any unevenness in the surface cleansed.
hisassures effective suction in thevsurt'acc shoe because if one slot 1 Specification oi Letters 1*" tent.

does not -reach a particular spot another probably will, and the entire surface-is exposed to practically three diiferent lines of slots successively. It has also been found that this larger suction area saves labor and time in passing over the same surface possibly several times in order to make the work thorough. Suction is through the middle or central opening 4 in the top of the shoe, and the said top is provided with screw holes 5 through which it is adapted to be attached to the machine, as seen in Fig. 1.
Respecting the disposition of the slots 2 and 3 it will be observed that the slots 3 converge from the middle and wider portion of the shoe toward the extremities thereof, thus bringing said side slots to an inclination in respect to the middle slot, relatively as shown.
What I claim is:
l. A vacuum cleaning stant-ially as shown and converging from the middle thereof to its 'endsand a fiattool shaped sub "slot lengthwise centrally through the same and side slots converging from the middle of the shoe toward ,"the respective ends therof;
2., A vacuum cleani'n tool comprising a shoe approximately 0 substantially provided with side slots i1 g to the side V-shapad formation conformi .walls of the shoe and spaced part at their in presence of two witnesses.
