emme Amalie-alien filed 6 To all whom ii viz-a3; coi'wsmi: I
Be it knewn that I,- l l IIILARD Dew, a citizen of the Unii'ed Slates and rep dent of Braint-ree, in the county of l'lm'follq ma State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Electric Switches, of which the following desei'ipiien, in eennecl mi is a speei- .mgs reprew senting like parts.
This invention relates is elecizric-switelies and. particularly to a switch for the circuits of an ignition system. In devices of this 5011; it is clesirable to provide for COI1IlfiC- lion anal operation uncler a' variety of con izu'ities 01 systems in which they are to he used. is
The ignitien'of e1 esi've gaselene e11 has cleveloved to 1901x113 WllGle vmcliiiens necessitate a correspondf of requirements and the :lurnl. a switch capable i use m such cl rent efys terns invelves a problem of censiilerehle difficulty. It is further desirable in many uses, such as in ruiltomebile or pewer kiwi, to have a switch capable of being .v'eselil l and positively Worked and so srmnge L ei'z-ltion after the systeni has been ini Lew ally put. out 0 f opemtion. To stop the battery ignition the arm 10 is returned to center cutting out the battery circuit and. grounding the closed circuit magneto'tlirough the blade 13. To shift onto the magneto, still leaving out the batteries, the blade 12 is brought over in which position the circuit of the magneto is opened/at 6 and mode operative for the running ignition, I
With magneto systems requiring a, closed circuit to operate, the magneto connection is rustle st end the battery at 7' as before.

At center or (lead position this location is made permanent by removing; the plug )1. The removal of the plug 21 in either system s ilie switch will; r can only operated after has been inserted.
Various modifimtirms in form and errungemeiit of ports and connections clovioosly be n'mrle within the limits of the l, zippc deal chums, Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
V /hst I therefore claim and desire to sccore by Letters Patent is:
'1. In a switch, a movable arm, a; support having; a recess in the path of said arm, a catch on snicl arm for engaging seicl recess and e removable plug for normally partially closing said recess to permit the movement of said arm While leaving a shallow recess sotiicicnt for indicating 2L position of the arm;
2. lo a switch a movable arm a support having a recess in the patlrof said arm, means on said arm for engaging said recess and a removable means for normally partially closing soicl recess to permit the movement of said arm While leaving a, shallow rcccss sullicient for indicating a position of the arm.
In a switch, e movable arm, o support having an opening therethrough and forming a recess in the path of said arm, means on said arm for engaging said recess and a removable means for normally partially closing said opening but leaving a shallow recess to indicate the position but permit the yielding disengagement of said arm.
4:- In a switch, a having an opening therethrough, an arm movably mounted on the inside of said box, the under eml of said opening forming a recess in the path of said arm, s yielding catch on said arm for engaging said recess and a removable plug insertible through said opening to partially close said recess leaving a shallow recess to indicate the position but permit the yielding cliseng agement of said cetch on said arm.
5. ll switch, comprisin a, movable contact maker carrying 21 yields le pin, a support therefor, a recess in said support. in a positioiito be entered hy said. pin to fixcxlly 'loclr said contact maker, and a plug cooperative with said recess to decrease the depth of said recess the parts losing so constructed that saiol in may then be disengaged there from by .atera'l impulse imparted to said contact maker.
6. In ai'switch of the character herein doscribecl, the combination of a supporting base, e segmental series of stationery con tact points arranged on said base, a movable switch lever pivoted on said base, and means for locking seizl lever in a dormant position the some comprising a bolt sliding in said base and engaging an orifice in said lever, means for yiel ingly forcing said bolt to its engagement, and means on shid base for guidiog a plug longitudinally to move said engaging means out of engagement with the switch lever. v
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name/to this specification, 1n the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
