Abstract
A method for predicting the risk of osteoporosis in the patients with systemic lupus erythematosus comprises the clinical examination, X-ray imaging, the assay for homocysteine in blood serum, the measurement of the thickness of intima-media complex, and the assay for endothelium-dependent vasodilatation of the brachial artery. When the homocysteine level exceeds 15 µM, the thickness of intima-media complex exceeds 0.998 mm in common carotid artery, 0.438 mm in brachial artery, 1.03 mm in femoral artery, and endothelium-dependent vasodilatation of the brachial artery is less than 7 %, the risk of osteoporosis is suggested.
