Abstract

A mode of operation for arc plasma jet with a hot electrode relates to electrothermics. According to this method in cathode region of plasma jet it is supplied inert protection gas, fired an arc, supplied working gas and put it working mode. Duration and consumption of inert gas supplying for arc firing is set under conditionof support of partial pressure precritical value of active gases near the hot electrode surface. The value of said pressure is determined by properties of emission material of the hot electrode. Moreover, after arc extinction it is continued to supply the inert protection gas in cathode region until the cathode cool to temperature admissible for its contacts with atmosphere without poisoning emission surface. The method provides increase of resource of arc plasma jets with hot electrode.
