Abstract

A method for assessing the indications for laparoscopy or laparotomy in open trauma of the abdominal organs comprises the primary surgical treatment of the wound and ascertaining its penetrating nature. The following signs are assessed: the number of the wounds on the anterior abdominal wall, eventration of the internal organs of the abdominal cavity, the peritoneal symptoms, the dullness of liver, the dullness of percussion sound on the flanges, the character of the intestinal peristalsis, the grade of the hemorrhagic shock. The survey X-ray picture is taken. Each diagnostic feature is scored, the points are summed up. When the sum is below 10, laparoscopy is indicated. When the sum is within 10-15, laparoscopy or laparotomy is possible. When the sum exceeds 15, laparotomy is indicated.
