A method for efficient detection of a powerful earthquake that approaches by measured values of electric component of electromagnetic field of Earth includes measurement of values of electric component of electromagnetic field of Earth, measured values of electric component of electromagnetic field of Earth are compared to background values. If measured values of electric component of electromagnetic field of Earth exceed the background values by 20 dB one makes decision on future earthquake. One measures the root-mean-square value of strength of electric component of electromagnetic field of Earth by means of electric field measuring device placed at the surface of Earth in seismo-active region.
