Abstract
A process for the preparation of phenyl-4-diphenylyl-1-imidazolyl methane involves reduction of 4-benzoyldiphenyl, condensation of prepared phenyl-4-diphenylyl carbinol with imidazole and recrystallization of product. 4-Benzoyldiphenylyl is reduced directly in reaction mixture prepared of diphenyl and benzoyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride in benzol after isolation of aluminium chloride and benzol steaming. Zinc in alcoholic solution of alkali or alumunium solution in izopropanol is used as reducer. The condensation of prepared phenyl-4-diphenylyl carbinol with imidazole is carried out on heating in acetic acid.
