Abstract

The invention relates to the field of arc welding by a strip electrode and may be used for hardening and restoring machine parts and tools. A method includes supplying current to an electrical stickout of a strip electrode, which is carried out by individual elements of current contact jaws isolated from each other. Thus the energy to each element of the current contact jaw is fed from an individual power source, and the power of current, whose current contact jaw element is located over an arc that moves over the face of strip is increased by 20-100 %, relative to remaining powers of each of the sources. Current position of the arc that moves on its end is determined by identifying the element of the current contact jaw with minimum voltage with short equalization of currents of all elements of current contact jaws, while the time for equalization of currents is set according to the relationship:,where- arc voltage (V),- sum of near-electrode voltage drops (on anode and cathode, respectively) (V), n - number of elements of the current contact jaw,- gradient of voltage drop along the arc column length (V/mm),- rate of feed of a strip electrode (mm/s). Application of the method will improve the quality of the deposited layer, reduce the amount of lacks of penetration, slagging, omissions of weld metal.
