Abstract

A method of structural modeling of lateral soil heterogeneity involves the use of space-based multi-zone imaging data in the visible and near-infrared portions of the spectrum. The results are processed by cluster analysis for space image classification and terrestrial exploration using global positioning devices. According to GIS research, they obtain a map of the brightness of soil areas, which bind to a system of geographical coordinates and on each of them lay a soil section. Additionally, soil samples are sampled to determine soil differences. A joint analysis of space image classification and soil survey data determines the interdependence of the optical characteristics of the soil surface and its basic genetically determined properties. They create a spatial model of soil indices and use GIS to identify their quantitative values for each image element within individual soil types and classes, which allows to obtain the most probable model of lateral soil heterogeneity.
