Abstract

The invention relates to ferrous metallurgy. A method of refining molten metal in a tundish comprises forming jets of inert gas fed under pressure around the jets of flowing molten metal that allows entry of bubbles of inert gas in the molten metal, wherein the jets of inert gas are formed in parallel to the axis of flowing molten metal in direction opposite thereto with a diameter, which is determined in accordance with the presented relationship. Using the present method enhances the degree of refining and prevents contamination of the metal by surface slag by increasing the contact area of the metal melt and total surface area of bubbles of inert gas.
