Abstract

This invention relates to a folding umbrella, comprising a support column having a fixing part, a turning part, and a pivoting part. The fixing part has a vertical section and a horizontal section. The turning part is located at the other end of the horizontal section opposite to the vertical section. One end of the pivoting part is located at the turning part, and the pivoting part can pivot towards the vertical section through the turning part. An umbrella canopy assembly is located at the pivoting part. An umbrella folding device is located at the fixing part and connected to the umbrella canopy assembly. When the umbrella is folded, the pivoting part can pivot towards the fixing part through the turning part, causing the umbrella canopy assembly to rest against the vertical section, thereby reducing the overall volume of the invention and improving the convenience of handling. When not in use, the folded state can reduce stress concentration on the mechanism or swaying due to external forces, thereby extending the service life of this new type of appliance.

Description

Folding umbrella

This invention relates to an umbrella, and more particularly to a folding umbrella.

In current technology, outdoor folding umbrellas (also known as patio umbrellas or sun umbrellas) are widely used in outdoor cafes, outdoor dining tables, patio rest areas, stall shelters, and event exhibition areas. Their main function is to provide sun and rain protection. Traditional outdoor folding umbrellas typically have a central pillar that extends upwards to support the umbrella canopy, with multiple ribs radiating outwards from the top to form the umbrella canopy support structure when unfolded. Users can open or fold the umbrella manually or using a pulley mechanism.

However, this type of "central pillar" structure has several drawbacks that need improvement. First, because the pillar is located in the center of the umbrella, when the umbrella is placed on tables, chairs, stalls, or areas where people move around, it occupies central space, which limits table setting or hinders people's movement, making it difficult to make flexible use of space. For example, when a central pillar is placed in the center of a dining table, it not only affects the line of sight and communication, but also makes it inconvenient to place tableware and plates, reducing the comfort of use.

Secondly, in the process of unfolding and folding a traditional folding umbrella, the rib mechanism must slide synchronously along the center post to ensure the center post is vertical and avoids tilting. The operation is relatively cumbersome, and if the center post is too high or the umbrella canopy is too large, it is difficult for a single person to operate. In addition, the center post often contains mechanisms such as telescopic rods, gears, or sliding sleeves, which are prone to jamming, rusting, or loosening after long-term use, resulting in uneven opening and closing or the umbrella canopy tilting.

To improve convenience, some folding umbrellas adopt an eccentric support design. However, due to the longer lever arm, this structure is prone to causing the umbrella surface to be unbalanced, resulting in high stress concentration. In strong winds and heavy rains, it is often damaged or collapses, resulting in insufficient overall durability. In addition, due to its shape, it occupies a large volume, making it inconvenient to carry and move.

Therefore, the existing folding umbrella technology has the aforementioned problems and shortcomings in its overall structure, and it needs to be improved.

In view of the shortcomings and deficiencies of the existing technology, the present invention provides a folding umbrella that achieves the purpose of bending the horizontal support and reducing the storage volume by setting a pivot structure in the horizontal support.

To achieve the aforementioned creative objective, the present invention employs a design of a folding umbrella, comprising: a support column having a fixing part, a turning part, and a pivot part; the fixing part having a vertical section and a horizontal section; the horizontal section extending horizontally from one end of the vertical section; the turning part being disposed at the other end of the horizontal section opposite to the vertical section; one end of the pivot part being disposed at the turning part, and the pivot part being able to pivot towards the vertical section via the turning part; an umbrella canopy assembly being disposed at the other end of the pivot part opposite to the fixing part; and an umbrella folder being disposed at the fixing part and connected to the umbrella canopy assembly, the umbrella folder being able to control the opening or folding of the umbrella canopy assembly.

Furthermore, in the aforementioned folding umbrella, the steering unit includes a base, a steering plate, a pivot, and a pin. The base is disposed in the horizontal section, the steering plate is disposed in the steering unit, the steering plate is pivoted to the base through the pivot, and the pin can selectively pass through or detach from the base and the steering plate.

Furthermore, in the folding umbrella, the base is a folding body with an inner through hole, and the base is fixed to the periphery of the horizontal section of the pole through the inner through hole. The steering plate is a folding body with an outer through hole, and the steering plate is fixed to the pivot part through the outer through hole. The umbrella folder includes a handle and an umbrella rope. The handle is disposed in the fixing part. One end of the umbrella rope is connected to the handle, and the other end of the umbrella rope passes through the inner through hole and the outer through hole and is connected to the umbrella canopy assembly.

Furthermore, in the folding umbrella, the base has two inner insertion holes, the steering plate has two outer insertion holes, and the pin is used to pass through the two inner insertion holes and the two outer insertion holes.

Furthermore, the folding umbrella includes an umbrella canopy assembly comprising a plurality of umbrella ribs, an umbrella fabric, and an umbrella tray, the umbrella tray being connected to each of the umbrella ribs, and the umbrella fabric being coupled to each of the umbrella ribs.

Furthermore, the folding umbrella includes a handle and an umbrella rope. The handle is disposed on the fixing part, one end of the umbrella rope is connected to the handle, and the other end of the umbrella rope passes through the horizontal section, passes through the turning part and the pivot part, and is connected to the umbrella canopy assembly.

The advantages of this new design are that it has a folded state, where the pivot point is rotated towards the fixed part via a turning part, allowing the umbrella fabric to lie against the vertical section. This reduces the overall volume of the design, and the folded state reduces the overall lateral length while maintaining the longitudinal length, improving ease of handling. When not in use, the folded state also reduces stress concentration on the mechanism or swaying under external forces, thereby extending the service life of the design.

The following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and preferred embodiments of the present invention, further illustrates the technical means employed by the present invention to achieve the intended creative purpose.

Please refer to Figure 1. The folding umbrella of this invention includes a support post 10, an umbrella canopy assembly 20, and an umbrella folder 30.

Please refer to Figures 1 and 3. The support column 10 has a fixing part 11, a turning part 12 and a pivot part 13. The fixing part 11 is a hollow rod body with a vertical section 111 and a horizontal section 112. The horizontal section 112 extends horizontally upward from one end of the vertical section 111 to form an L-shaped rod body. The turning part 12 is located at the other end of the horizontal section 112 opposite to the vertical section 111. The pivot part 13 is a hollow rod body with one end located at the turning part 12. The pivot part 13 can pivot towards the vertical section 111 through the turning part 12.

Please refer to Figures 4 and 5. In this embodiment, the steering unit 12 includes a base 121, a steering plate 122, a pivot 123, and a pin 124. The base 121 is a U-shaped bent body with an inner through hole 125 and two inner insertion holes 126. The inner through hole 125 penetrates the transverse side surface, and the inner insertion holes 126 penetrate the upper and lower longitudinal surfaces respectively. The base 121 is fixed to the end of the transverse section 112, specifically by the inner through hole 125 being engaged and fixed with the periphery of the rod body of the transverse section 112. The steering plate 122 is a U-shaped bent body with an outer through hole 127 and two outer insertion holes 128. The outer through hole 127 penetrates the horizontal side surface, and the outer insertion holes 128 penetrate the vertical surfaces located above and below. The steering plate 122 is fixed to the periphery of the rod of the pivot part 13 by the outer through hole 127. The steering plate 122 is pivoted on the base 121 through the pivot 123. The pivot is an application of existing technology, and its detailed structure will not be described in detail. In this way, the pivot part 13 can pivot relative to the fixed part 11. When the base 121 and the steering plate 122 are close to each other, that is, when each inner through hole 125 and each outer through hole 127 are coaxial, they can be fixed by the pin 124, so that the fixed part 11 and the pivot part 13 are fixed in a coaxial position.

Please refer to Figures 2 and 3. The umbrella assembly 20 is disposed at the other end of the pivot 13 opposite to the fixing part 11. In this embodiment, the umbrella assembly 20 includes a plurality of umbrella ribs 21, an umbrella fabric 22 and an umbrella disc 23. The umbrella disc 23 is provided with a plurality of pivot rods (not shown in the figure) around the spacer and is pivoted to each umbrella rib 21 through each pivot rod. The umbrella fabric 22 is combined with each umbrella rib 21, and one end of each umbrella rib 21 is pivoted to the other end of the pivot 13.

Please refer to Figures 2, 3 and 5. The umbrella folder 30 is disposed on the fixing part 11 and connected to the umbrella canopy assembly 20. The umbrella folder 30 can control the opening or closing of the umbrella canopy assembly 20. Specifically, the umbrella folder 30 includes a handle 31 and an umbrella rope 32. The handle 31 is disposed on the fixing part 11. One end of the umbrella rope 32 is connected to the handle 31, and the other end extends upward along the fixing part 11 and passes through the horizontal section 112, passing through the inner through hole 125 and the outer through hole 127 of the turning part 12, and exits through the pivot part 13 and connects to the umbrella disc 23. In this way, the umbrella rope 32 can be opened or closed by rotating the handle 31, so as to achieve the function of opening or closing the umbrella fabric 22.

When in use, this new type of umbrella has an unfolded state and a folded state, as shown in Figures 3 to 5. In the unfolded state, the handle 31 winds up the umbrella rope 32 until the umbrella disc 23 moves to the top dead center of its stroke, so that the pivot rod and the umbrella ribs 21 are both in the open state, and the pins 124 are inserted through the inner holes 125 and the outer holes 127, so that there are no other mechanisms under the umbrella fabric 22, providing complete shelter space.

In the folded state, the handle 31 releases the umbrella rope 32 until the umbrella disc 23 moves to the bottom dead center of its stroke, so that both the pivot and the umbrella ribs 21 are in the folded state. Please refer to Figures 5, 7 and 8. After removing the pin 124, the pivot part 13 can be pivoted toward the fixed part 11, so that the umbrella fabric 22 is against the vertical section 111, thereby reducing the overall volume of this new type of umbrella. After folding, the overall horizontal length is reduced, and only the vertical length is maintained, which helps to improve the convenience of carrying. When not in use, the folded state can reduce stress concentration on the mechanism or swaying due to external forces, thereby extending the service life of this new type of appliance.

Claims (6)

A folding umbrella includes: a support post having a fixing part, a turning part, and a pivot part; the fixing part having a vertical section and a horizontal section; the horizontal section extending horizontally from one end of the vertical section; the turning part being disposed at the other end of the horizontal section opposite to the vertical section; one end of the pivot part being disposed at the turning part; and the pivot part being able to pivot towards the vertical section via the turning part; an umbrella canopy assembly being disposed at the other end of the pivot part opposite to the fixing part; and an umbrella folder being disposed at the fixing part and connected to the umbrella canopy assembly, the umbrella folder being able to control the opening or folding of the umbrella canopy assembly. The folding umbrella as described in claim 1, wherein the steering unit includes a base, a steering plate, a pivot and a pin, the base being disposed in the transverse section, the steering plate being disposed in the steering unit, the steering plate being pivoted to the base via the pivot, and the pin being selectively inserted into or detached from the base and the steering plate. As described in claim 2, the folding umbrella has a base that is a folding body with an inner through hole, the base being fixed to the periphery of the horizontal section of the pole via the inner through hole, the steering plate being a folding body with an outer through hole, the steering plate being fixed to the pivot via the outer through hole, and the umbrella folder including a handle and an umbrella rope, the handle being disposed at the fixing part, one end of the umbrella rope being connected to the handle, and the other end of the umbrella rope passing through the inner through hole and the outer through hole and being connected to the umbrella canopy assembly. The folding umbrella as described in claim 3, wherein the base has two inner insertion holes, the steering plate has two outer insertion holes, and the pin is used to pass through the two inner insertion holes and the two outer insertion holes. The folding umbrella as described in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the umbrella canopy assembly includes a plurality of ribs, an umbrella fabric and an umbrella tray, the umbrella tray being connected to each of the ribs and the umbrella fabric being coupled to each of the ribs. The folding umbrella as described in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the umbrella folder includes a handle and an umbrella rope, the handle being disposed at the fixing part, one end of the umbrella rope being connected to the handle, and the other end of the umbrella rope passing through the transverse section, passing through the turning part and the pivot part and being connected to the umbrella canopy assembly.
