Description

Computing system

The present invention generally relates to a computing system having a partition wall assembly that separates a space for placing electronic components in a housing, and more specifically, to a partition wall assembly that includes a plurality of sheets and a coupling rod that is fastened by a fastener inserted into through holes of the plurality of sheets and the through hole of the coupling rod.

Generally, a plurality of electronic components are included in a housing of a computing system. For example, a computing system may include more than one power supply unit (PSU), and a partition wall is required to divide the internal space of the housing so that each power supply unit is placed at a designated space of the housing. Although the partition wall needs to be strong, the partition wall also needs to be as thin as possible so as not to occupy too much space inside the housing. In addition, the partition wall needs to be firmly fixed in the housing of the computing system. One way to fix the partition wall to a frame of the housing is to use a fastener, such as a rivet or a screw, inserted into a hole formed on the partition wall. Generally, a metal sheet is used as the material of the partition wall.

In order to form a hole in a partition wall for receiving a fastener, sufficient space needs to be reserved for firmly fixing the fastener to a housing. Generally, it is recommended to reserve at least 2 times the diameter of the hole in the sheet material so that the fastener can be fully fixed to the housing. Generally, the size of a rivet is in the range of 2.6 mm to 3.4 mm. Therefore, the minimum width required to rivet two metal sheets is 5.2 mm. However, if the width of the metal sheet is at least 5.2 mm, it will take up too much space in the housing. In addition, the squeeze hole requires more space than the flat head rivet.

Referring to FIG. 1A , a metal sheet 100 commonly used in a computing system has a width (width, W) smaller than the required width described above. Generally, the width (W) is about 3 mm. Therefore, it is impossible or difficult to form holes for receiving fasteners on the metal sheet 100. As shown in FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C , if such metal sheets 110 and 120 are used to form rivet holes or extrusion holes thereon, there is not enough space.

Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problem of limited space on the metal plate for forming holes to accommodate fasteners. It is also necessary to provide holes for receiving fasteners in the limited space of the metal sheet without increasing the width or thickness of the metal sheet.

The terms of embodiments and similar terms (e.g., embodiments, configurations, features, examples, and options) are intended to broadly refer to all of the subject matter of the present disclosure and the following claims. Several statements containing these terms should be understood as not limiting the subject matter of the present disclosure or limiting the meaning or scope of the following claims. The novel content is a high-level overview of the various features of the present disclosure and introduces some of the concepts further described in the following embodiments paragraphs. The novel content is not intended to identify key or necessary features of the subject matter of the claims, nor is it intended to be used independently to determine the scope of the subject matter of the claims. The subject matter should be understood by reference to appropriate portions of the complete specification of the present disclosure, any or all drawings, and each claim.

In view of the above-mentioned problem that it is known that sheets do not have enough space to have holes, the present application discloses a coupling rod that can be used to couple two sheets together. The coupling rod provides holes for receiving a plurality of fasteners for attaching a partition wall, the partition wall including the coupled sheets, coupled to a frame of a housing of a computing system. Therefore, the sheets of the partition wall do not need to have holes. Despite the limited space provided by the sheets, the coupling rod can still provide a lockable position. Therefore, by providing a coupling rod sandwiched between the sheets, it is not necessary to use a wider sheet to provide holes for receiving fasteners.

The term "including" means "including but not limited to." In addition, approximate words such as "about, almost, substantially, approximately" and the like may mean, for example, "at," "near, nearly at," "within 3-5% of," "within acceptable manufacturing tolerances," or any logical combination thereof. Additionally, the term "vertical" or "horizontal" is intended to further include "within 3-5%" of the vertical or horizontal direction, respectively. Additionally, directional terms such as "top," "bottom," "left," "right," "above," and "below" are intended to relate to equivalent directions as depicted in the referenced figures; to be understood from the context of the referenced object or component, such as from the common location of the object or component; or other such descriptions.

A coupling rod 200 according to various embodiments of the present invention is shown in FIGS. 2A and 2B. In some embodiments, the coupling rod 200 is made of steel. Referring to FIG. 2A, a front view (same as the rear view) of the coupling rod 200 is shown, and the coupling rod 200 has a flat surface 201 formed between cylindrical ends 203. The coupling rod 200 also has at least one rod through hole 204 located on the flat surface 201. As shown in FIG. 2A, the rod through hole 204 is perpendicular to the axis of the coupling rod 200. In some embodiments, the size of the rod through hole 204 is designed to receive a fastener 301. For example, the fastener 301 includes a rivet, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. The coupling rod 200 further has a curved surface 202 . FIG. 2B shows a side view of the coupling rod 200 .

In some embodiments, the coupling rod 200 is made by flattening the side portion of a cylindrical free-cut steel, thereby forming a flat surface 201 between the cylindrical ends 203, maintaining its original shape. Subsequently, a plurality of rod through holes 204 are formed on the flat surface 201. Therefore, the width of the flat surface 201 corresponding to the distance between the two curved surfaces 202 is the same as the diameter of the cylindrical ends 203. As shown in FIG. 2B, the thickness of the portion of the coupling rod 200 between the cylindrical ends 203, corresponding to the distance between the two flat surfaces 201, is smaller than the diameter of the cylindrical ends 203. In some embodiments, the two cylindrical ends 203 of the coupling rod 200 are the same, so that the cylindrical ends 203 are symmetrical.

In some embodiments, at least one of the plurality of cylindrical ends 203 of the coupling rod 200 has an attachment hole 205. The attachment hole 205 is parallel to the axis of the coupling rod 200. Therefore, the attachment hole 205 is perpendicular to the rod through hole 204. In some embodiments, the inner surface of the attachment hole 205 is threaded. In some embodiments, the attachment hole 205 is configured to receive a fastener 302. For example, the fastener 302 inserted into the attachment hole 205 includes a screw, as shown in FIG. 7A.

The dimensions of the coupling rod 200 are discussed with reference to Figures 3A and 3B. In some embodiments, the thickness h is 1.6 mm.

In some embodiments, the depth i of the attachment hole 205 is approximately 3 mm. In some embodiments, the depth i is 3 mm.

204。FIG. 4 shows the coupling of the coupling rod 200 and a sheet 400-1 to form a partition wall assembly 600 as shown in FIG. 6. In some embodiments, the sheet 400-1 is a metal sheet formed as a thin flat piece. The metal sheet can be cut and bent into various shapes, as shown in FIG. 4. In some embodiments, a sheet through hole 401 is formed on the sheet 400-1, as shown in FIG. 4 and FIG. 5. In some embodiments, a plurality of sheet through holes 401 are formed on the sheet 400-1, and the plurality of sheet through holes 401 respectively correspond to the rod through holes 204 formed on the coupling rod 200. In some embodiments, a fastener 301 is inserted through the sheet through hole 401 and the rod through hole 204. When assembling the partition wall assembly 600 , the coupling rod 200 is placed relative to the sheet 400 - 1 so that the rod through-hole 204 is aligned with the sheet through-hole 401 , and the fastener 301 passes through the corresponding sheet through-hole 401 and the rod through-hole 204 .

Referring to FIGS. 4 to 6 , in some embodiments, the shapes of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 are designed to have a section for exposing the cylindrical end 203 when the flat surface 201 of the coupling rod 200 is placed to contact the inner surfaces of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. For example, each section of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 for exposing the cylindrical end 203 is formed by a gap generated by cutting a portion of the top or bottom of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. Therefore, the attachment hole 205 of the cylindrical end 203 can be easily accessed through the gap section of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. See FIG. 6 . In some embodiments, the thickness of the partition wall assembly 600 is the same as or similar to the diameter d of the cylindrical end 203. In some embodiments, the thickness of the partition wall assembly 600 is slightly smaller (0.5 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm, or 2 mm) than the diameter d of the cylindrical end portion 203. In some embodiments, the thickness of the partition wall assembly 600 is slightly larger (0.5 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm, or 2 mm) than the diameter d of the cylindrical end portion 203.

Referring to FIG. 5 , in order to assemble the partition wall assembly 600, a plurality of coupling rods 200 are placed between two sheets 400-1 and 400-2. In some embodiments, each of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 has a plurality of sheet through holes 401 that individually correspond to the rod through holes 204 of the coupling rods 200. As shown in FIG. 5 , a plurality of coupling rods 200 are spaced apart from each other. Although according to FIG. 5 , there are four coupling rods 200 between the sheets 400-1 and 400-2, the number of coupling rods 200 may be less than or more than four, depending on the arrangement of the corresponding sheet through holes 401 formed on the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. When the sheet through holes 401 of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 are aligned with the rod through holes 204 of the coupling rod 200 located between the sheets 400-1 and 400-2, the fastener 301 is inserted through the aligned sheet through holes 401 and rod through holes 204 to couple the two sheets 400-1 and 400-2 with the coupling rod 200 placed therebetween. In some embodiments, the fastener 301 is a rivet.

In some embodiments, in addition to the sheet through-holes 401, the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 have additional through-holes 402, allowing the fasteners 301 to penetrate through the through-holes 402 without having the rod through-holes 204 therebetween. In some embodiments, each through-hole 402 is extended inwardly by a protrusion, and the through-hole 402 is formed at the center of the protrusion, as shown in FIG. 5. In some embodiments, when the partition wall assembly 600 is assembled so that a fastener 301 penetrates two corresponding through-holes 402, the protrusion contacts the mating protrusion. In some embodiments, the thickness of the two contacting protrusions and the through-holes 402 more or less corresponds to the thickness h of the coupling rod 200 located between the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. In some embodiments, the same fastener 301 is used for both the through-sheet hole 401 and the additional through-hole 402, as shown in Figures 5 and 6. In some embodiments, the fastener used for the through-sheet hole 401 and the fastener used for the additional through-hole 402 are different.

205。 Referring to FIG. 6 , the length a of the coupling rod 200 is more or less the same as the height of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. Therefore, the ends of the cylindrical end 203 of the coupling rod 200 exposed between the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 are more or less aligned with the top and bottom ends of the sheets 400-1 and 400-2. Even if the attachment holes are not formed on the sheets 400-1 and 400-2, this configuration of the partition wall assembly 600 provides an attachment hole 205 for coupling the partition wall assembly 600 to a frame of the housing 501.

Referring to FIG. 7A , a housing 501 of a computing system 500 has through holes 502 formed thereon, for example, at the top and bottom of the housing 501. When the partition wall assembly 600 is placed in the housing 501, the attachment hole 205 of the coupling rod 200 is aligned with the through hole 502 of the housing 501, and the fastener 302 is inserted therein to secure the partition wall assembly 600 in the housing 501. In some embodiments, the fastener 302 includes a screw.

7B , the housing 501 of the computing system 500 is divided into two separate areas by the partition wall assembly 600 so that an electronic component, such as a power supply unit, is placed in each area of the housing 501. By using the coupling rod 200 that provides the attachment hole 205 in the partition wall assembly 600, thin width/thickness sheets 400-1, 400-2 can be used without increasing the space occupied by the partition wall assembly 600 in the internal space of the housing 501. This is possible because the sheets 400-1, 400-2 themselves do not need to have attachment holes for fixing the partition wall assembly 600 to the housing 501. The coupling rod 200 between the sheets 400-1 and 400-2 provides the attachment hole 205 without requiring too much space within the housing 501.

In various embodiments, a method for separating electronic components of a computing system includes providing a housing 501 configured to receive a plurality of electronic components. For example, the plurality of electronic components include a first electronic component 504a and a second electronic component 504b, as shown in FIG. 7B. The method further includes providing a plurality of sheets, including a first sheet 400-1 and a second sheet 400-2, each of the plurality of sheets having a sheet through hole 401. The method further includes providing a coupling rod 200 having a flat surface 201 formed between cylindrical ends 203, the coupling rod 200 having a rod through hole 204 located on the flat surface 201. The method further includes positioning the coupling rod 200 between the first sheet 400-1 and the second sheet 400-2. The method further includes aligning the sheet through hole 401 of each sheet of the plurality of sheets 400-1, 400-2 with the rod through hole 204. The method further includes inserting a fastener 301 into the sheet through hole 401 of each sheet and the rod through hole 204 to attach the plurality of sheets 400-1, 400-2 to the coupling rod 200, and the attachment of the plurality of sheets 400-1, 400-2 and the coupling rod 200 forms a partition wall assembly 600. The method further includes attaching the partition wall assembly 600 to the housing 501, as shown in FIG. 7A. In some embodiments, the method further includes placing the first electronic component 504a and the second electronic component 504b (eg, a power supply unit) in their respective spaces created by the partition wall assembly 600 in the housing 501, as shown in FIG. 7B.
