Description

Coaxial cable connector

The invention relates to a connector, in particular a coaxial cable connector having continuous good electrical connectivity and requiring no special compression tools for installation.

In addition to being used in cable TV signal reception, coaxial cable connectors are also commonly used in the field of broadband communications. A typical coaxial cable connector 9 is shown in FIG. 1 , which includes a mandrel 91, an outer sleeve 92, a nut 93, and a compression cylinder 94. A front end 921 of the outer sleeve 92 surrounds and contacts the outer circumference of the mandrel 91, and a rear end 922 of the outer sleeve 92 cooperates with the mandrel 91 to define a space 923 for a portion of a coaxial cable 8 to penetrate. The nut 93 is fixed to the mandrel 91 and the outer sleeve 92 so as to be freely rotatable. The compression cylinder 94 needs to be pushed by a professional compression tool (not shown) to force the rear end 922 of the outer sleeve 92 toward the core shaft 91 to prevent the coaxial cable 8 from escaping.

When the known coaxial cable connector 9 is combined with a connector 71 of an electronic device 7, an internal thread 931 of a nut 93 is connected to a threaded surface 711 of the connector 71. By tightening the nut 93, the central conductor 81 of the coaxial cable 8 is coupled and electrically connected to the central channel 712 of the connector 71. In this way, the electronic device 7 and the coaxial cable connector 9 can be electrically and mechanically connected to each other at the same time.

It is known that when the coaxial cable connector 9 is connected to the connector 71 of the electronic device 7, poor electrical contact to the ground often occurs. The reason is that the nut 93 may loosen over time due to some factors and fail to fully contact the spindle 91. These factors include failure to properly lock due to an inappropriate number of rotations at the beginning, or gaps caused by pulling. In addition, it is known that the coaxial cable connector 9 may not be properly tightened and may become loose due to tolerance reasons between the nut 93 and the spindle 91 or between the nut 93 and the connector 71 of the electronic device 7, which may cause intermittent electrical conduction problems and allow other external signals to be injected. Therefore, a related improvement method is to add a flexible conductive element 95 between the nut 93, the spindle 91 and the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 so that the elements can be in close contact with each other. However, even if various elastic conductive elements 95 of different structures are added, in use, the nut 93 and the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 must be tightened to a certain degree before electrical conduction can be guaranteed. In other words, the conventional coaxial cable connector 9 cannot generate electrical conduction at the beginning. Because it is non-continuous electrical conduction, when other external signals are injected, unnecessary electrical interference will affect the quality of signal transmission.

Furthermore, it is known that the coaxial cable connector 9 must be used with a special compression tool. For general users, in addition to having to spend extra money to purchase professional tools, even if the professional tools are purchased, users cannot use them easily, intuitively and efficiently. Therefore, how to improve the above-mentioned problems to provide users with more satisfactory products has become an important problem that this invention is eager to solve.

Therefore, the purpose of the present invention is to provide a coaxial cable connector that can improve at least one disadvantage of the prior art.

Therefore, the novel coaxial cable connector is suitable for connecting to a threaded surface of an electronic device. The coaxial cable connector includes a sleeve and a spindle.

251。 The body 22 of the spindle 2 has a small tube portion 23, a large tube portion 24, and a connecting portion 25. The connecting portion 25 has two ends connected to the small tube portion 23 and the large tube portion 24, respectively. In this embodiment, the connecting portion 25 and the large tube portion 24 are arranged at an angle, and the connecting portion 25 and the large tube portion 24 cooperate to define an accommodating space 26, so that the head portion 21 of the spindle 2 can be arranged in the accommodating space 26. In addition, the small tube portion 23 of the spindle 2 has a contact surface 231 facing the opening 15 of the sleeve 1, and the contact surface 231 is used for the end surface 713 of the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 to contact. The large tube portion 24 of the spindle 2 has a first plane 241, and the connecting portion 25 has a second plane 251. The first plane 241 and the second plane 251 cooperate to define a notch 252, and the notch 252 is used to accommodate the second seal 5. Preferably, the opposite sides of the second seal 5 are pressed and contacted with the sleeve 1 and the second plane 251 of the spindle 2 respectively.

Referring to FIG. 7 , in some embodiments, the large tube portion 24 of the spindle 2 has a protrusion 242 at one end opposite to the connecting portion 25. The protrusion 242, the large tube portion 24 and the connecting portion 25 cooperate to define the accommodation space 26. In addition, the protrusion 242 is used to prevent the head portion 21 of the spindle 2 from moving away from the connecting portion 25, thereby preventing the head portion 21 of the spindle 2 from falling out of the accommodation space 26.

Referring to Figures 2, 3, and 5, the limiting cylinder 3 is sleeved on the second end 12 of the sleeve 1. The inner surface of the limiting cylinder 3 is stepped, and the limiting cylinder 3 includes a first inner ring surface 31, a second inner ring surface 32, an inner groove 33, a stopper 34, and a first coupling portion 35. In this embodiment, the inner diameter of the first inner ring surface 31 is larger than the inner diameter of the second inner ring surface 32, and the inner groove 33 is formed on the inner surface of the limiting cylinder 3 and is located on the second inner ring surface 32. The stopper 34 extends toward the first end 11. The first coupling portion 35 is formed on the outer surface of the limiting cylinder 3. The first coupling portion 35 can be engaged with the second coupling portion 14 of the sleeve 1 to prevent the limiting cylinder 3 from moving axially relative to the sleeve 1. In this embodiment, the first coupling portion 35 of the limiting cylinder 3 and the second coupling portion 14 of the sleeve 1 are respectively convex and concave in shape. In some embodiments, the opposite design can be adopted, that is, the first coupling portion 35 of the limiting cylinder 3 is a concave portion, and the second coupling portion 14 of the sleeve 1 is a convex portion.

Referring to Figures 2, 3, and 4, the assembly procedure of the novel coaxial cable connector can be, for example, to first place the head 21 of the spindle 2 in the accommodation space 26, and after the second seal 5 is set in the notch 252 of the body 22, the spindle 2 can be installed inside the sleeve 1 from the second end 12 to the first end 11 of the sleeve 1, and then the first coupling portion 35 of the limit tube 3 is plugged into the second coupling portion 14 of the second end 12 of the sleeve 1, and finally the first seal 4 is set in the installation groove 16 to complete the assembly.

After the assembly of the novel coaxial cable connector, when the spindle 2 is subjected to an external force in the axial direction, the sleeve 1 can move between a first position (as shown in FIG. 5 ) and a second position (as shown in FIG. 6 ) relative to the spindle 2. In the first position, the stopper 3 located at the second end 12 of the sleeve 1 defines a surrounding space 36 for the coaxial cable to pass through, and an end section 232 of the small tube portion 23 of the spindle 2 and the inner groove 33 of the stopper 3 do not surround each other, and the end section 232 of the spindle 2 and the stopper 3 have a first distance in the radial direction. In the second position, the body 22 of the spindle 2 abuts against the stopper 34 of the limiting cylinder 3, and the end section 232 of the spindle 2 and the inner groove 33 of the limiting cylinder 3 surround each other. The end section 232 of the spindle 2 and the limiting cylinder 3 have a second distance in the radial direction, and the second distance is smaller than the first distance.

Referring to Figures 5 and 6, the advantages of the new coaxial cable connector are described below through the steps of installing the new coaxial cable connector on the connector 71 of the electronic device 7:

It should be noted that the coaxial cable is omitted in Figures 5 and 6, and the relevant structure of the coaxial cable can be found in Figure 1. First, the coaxial cable is installed in the novel coaxial cable connector, wherein the central conductor of the coaxial cable extends from the body 22 of the mandrel 2 through the head 21 to the central channel in the connector 71, and the body 22 of the mandrel 2 accommodates the central conductor and the insulating layer and the shielding layer of the coaxial cable, and the space surrounded by the body 22 of the mandrel 2 and the sleeve 1 is used to accommodate the braided layer and the plastic skin layer of the coaxial cable.

Next, the novel coaxial cable connector is preliminarily installed toward the connector 71 of the electronic device 7. When the abutting surface 231 of the body 22 of the spindle 2 abuts against the end surface 713 of the connector 71, the head 21 of the spindle 2 directly contacts the threaded surface 711 of the connector 71. At this time, although the novel coaxial cable connector is not completely installed on the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7, the head 21 of the spindle 2 and the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7 are already in contact with each other in advance, so the electrical connection effect can be generated at the beginning.

Finally, the sleeve 1 is rotated to make the internal thread 13 gradually move from the first position to the second position relative to the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7, and the spindle 2 will gradually move away from the first end 11 of the sleeve 1. The spindle 2 is pushed by one end of the threaded portion of the connector 71 until it abuts against the stop portion 34 of the limit tube 3, and the end section 232 of the spindle 2 will gradually penetrate into the surrounding space 36 defined by the limit tube 3, thereby making the surrounding space 36 smaller to compress the coaxial cable, thereby preventing the coaxial cable from escaping from the novel coaxial cable connector. In this way, the user can install the novel coaxial cable connector on the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 without using a special compression tool. It is worth mentioning that the sleeve 1 not only has an internal thread 13 on its inner surface, but also has a torque fixing ring 17 on its outer circumference that can provide a large area for the user's fingers to contact. The torque fixing ring 17 is used for the user to apply force to rotate, so as to drive the sleeve 1 to rotate relative to the threaded surface 711 of the joint 71, so that one end surface 713 of the threaded portion abuts against the body 22 of the spindle 2, thereby allowing the spindle 2 to move axially relative to the sleeve 1.

The connector 71 of the present invention and the electronic device 7 can continuously provide the effect of electrical conduction from the beginning to the end of the installation. In addition, since the head 21 of the spindle 2 is substantially fixed to the connector 71, when the sleeve 1 gradually moves to the second position, the end section 232 of the spindle 2 and the limit tube 3 after the relative movement can cooperate with each other to clamp the coaxial cable, and the inner groove 33 of the limit tube 3 is used to accommodate part of the coaxial cable that is squeezed and deformed, so as to strengthen the tensile strength of the coaxial cable clamped between the limit tube 3 and the spindle 2.

Based on the above description, the advantages of this new coaxial cable connector can be summarized as follows:

1. The connector of the new type and the electronic device can maintain the continuity of electrical conduction through the design that the head of the mandrel is in electrical contact with the surface of the threaded part of the connector, whether in the initial installation or the complete installation process, so it can provide appropriate shielding to prevent noise and other forms of telecommunication interference to ensure the quality of signal transmission.

Second, this new type does not require the use of professional special compression tools. It only needs to rotate the sleeve and produce relative movement with the spindle to reduce the surrounding space for the coaxial cable, thereby effectively preventing the coaxial cable from escaping.

3. The sleeve of this new type is longer in the axial direction than the entire length of the spindle, and has a torque fixing ring design, which can provide a larger contact area and facilitate the user to perform the rotational locking step.

4. This new type of component has a sophisticated and simple structure and can effectively reduce costs.

Refer to Figures 8 to 12 for the second embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector. The second embodiment is similar to the first embodiment, and the main differences are:

The head portion 21 of the spindle 2 defines an elastic sleeve 216 and has a tail end 217 opposite to the elastic sleeve 216. The inner diameter of the tail end 217 of the spindle 2 is smaller than the inner diameter of the elastic sleeve 216. The head portion 21 of the spindle 2 also has an outer groove 218 formed on the outer circumference of the tail end 217. The elastic sleeve 216 has a surrounding wall 211 and a plurality of grooves 212, which are formed on the surrounding wall 211 and extend axially from an open end toward the tail end 217 of the spindle 2, so that the head portion 21 forms a plurality of sheet bodies 219 spaced from each other on the circumference, thereby forming the elastic sleeve 216. Preferably, the inner diameter of the elastic sleeve 216 gradually decreases axially toward the first end 11 of the sleeve 1. Of course, the inner diameter can also be uniformly extended axially. As long as it can directly contact the threaded surface 711 of the connector 71 during use, the same purpose and effect of maintaining electrical continuity can be achieved.

In this embodiment, the body 22 of the spindle 2 is tightly sleeved on the tail end 217 of the head 21. The spindle 2 also includes an annular member 27 and a rubber ring 28, wherein the annular member 27 is tightly sleeved in the head 21, and the rubber ring 28 is sleeved between the annular member 27 and the head 21. The second sealing member 5 is located in the outer groove 218, and its opposite sides are respectively pressurized and connected to the head 21 and the limit cylinder 3 of the spindle 2. In some embodiments, both the annular member and the body, or both the annular member and the head can be an integrally formed design.

The limiting cylinder 3 is sleeved on the second end 12 of the sleeve 1. The limiting cylinder 3 includes a fixing portion 37 and a pressing portion 38 arranged opposite to each other, and a stop portion 34 located between the fixing portion 37 and the pressing portion 38. When the sleeve 1 is in the first position relative to the spindle 2 (as shown in FIG. 11), the elastic sleeve 216 of the spindle 2 is in an uncompressed state. When the sleeve 1 is in the second position relative to the spindle 2 (as shown in FIG. 12), the elastic sleeve 216 of the spindle 2 is in a compressed state, and is radially deformed by being pushed against by the pressing portion 38 of the limiting cylinder 3, so that the head 21 of the spindle 2 can be in close contact with the surface of the threaded portion of the electronic device.

The assembly procedure of the second embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector can be, for example, to first combine the head 21, the body 22 and the annular member 27 into one body, then install the second seal 5 in the outer groove 218 of the head 21, and sleeve the rubber ring 28 between the elastic sleeve 216 defined by the annular member 27 and the head 21, then install the spindle 2 in the sleeve 1 from the second end 12 to the first end 11, then insert the first coupling portion 35 of the stopper 3 in the second coupling portion 14 of the second end 12 of the sleeve 1, and finally install the first seal 4 in the mounting groove 16 of the sleeve 1 to complete the assembly.

In use, the second embodiment can achieve the same effects and purposes as the first embodiment. When the sleeve 1 gradually moves from the first position to the second position, the elastic sleeve 216 of the spindle 2 is pushed against the inner circumference of the clamping portion 38 of the positioning tube 3 and deforms radially, further providing a compressive force toward the axis in the radial direction, so that the spindle 2 is firmly connected to the threaded portion of the electronic device.

Refer to Figures 13 to 16, which are the third embodiment of the new coaxial cable connector. The third embodiment is similar to the second embodiment, and the main differences are:

20。 The spindle 2 includes a head 20, an annular member 27 and a body 22. The head 20 has a front end 201 and a rear end 202. The body 22 has a front section 221 and a rear section 232, and the front section 221 and the rear section 232 are arranged opposite to each other. The annular member 27 is tightly mounted on the front section 221 of the body 22, and the annular member 27 and the body 22 are integrally and slidably arranged on the head 20. In this embodiment, the annular member 27 moves back and forth at the rear end 202 of the head 20. In other design applications, the annular member 27 can also move back and forth in the entire head 20, without being particularly limited to moving only on the rear end 202. In some embodiments, the ring 27 and the body 22 are integrally formed and slidably disposed on the head 20.

The assembly procedure of the third embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector can be, for example, to first assemble the annular member 27 and the body 22 together, and then respectively place the first sealing member 4 and the second sealing member 5 in the inner groove 271 and the outer groove 272 of the annular member 27, and then place them in the head 20; then move the semi-finished product after the above assembly from the second end 12 of the sleeve 1 to the first end 11, and finally plug the limit tube 3 into the second end 12 of the sleeve 1 to complete the assembly.

In the third embodiment of the coaxial cable connector of the present invention after assembly, when the spindle 2 is subjected to an external force in the axial direction, the sleeve 1 can move between a first position (as shown in FIG. 15 ) and a second position (as shown in FIG. 16 ) relative to the annular member 27 and the body 22 of the spindle 2. In the first position, the annular member 27 is located at the front half 2021 of the tail end 202 of the head 20, and the end section 232 of the body 22 of the spindle 2 and the inner groove 33 of the stop tube 3 do not surround each other. In the second position, the annular member 27 of the spindle 2 is located at the rear half 2022 of the tail end 202 of the head 20, the annular member 27 abuts against the stopper 34 of the limit tube 3, and the end section 232 of the body 22 of the spindle 2 and the inner groove 33 of the limit tube 3 surround each other, that is, the end section 232 of the body 22 of the spindle 2 penetrates into the annular space 36, thereby reducing the annular space 36.

In this embodiment, the annular member 27 has a circular appearance (as shown in FIG. 13 ), or a non-circular polygonal shape, such as a hexagonal shape (as shown in FIG. 17 and FIG. 18 ), or one or more protrusions may be formed on the outer circumference of the annular member 27. As long as the annular member 27 itself is in contact with the elastic body head 20 and can slide relative to each other, an electrical conduction effect can be generated, and there is no need to specifically limit the shape of the annular member 27.

In this way, the third embodiment can also achieve the same effect and purpose as the second embodiment.

Refer to Figures 19 to 21, which are the fourth embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector. The fourth embodiment is similar to the third embodiment, and the main differences are:

The head 20 of the spindle 2 has a front end 201, a rear end 202 and at least one first guide portion 203, and the at least one first guide portion 203 is formed at the rear end 202. The annular member 27 of the spindle 2 has at least one second guide portion 273, and the at least one second guide portion 273 and the at least one first guide portion 203 are matched in shape. For example, the first guide portion 203 is a slot, and the second guide portion 273 is a convex block. The at least one second guide portion 273 of the annular member 27 can be slidably disposed on the at least one first guide portion 203 of the head 20. It is worth mentioning that the first guide portion 203 can also be a bump, and the second guide portion 273 can be a slot in coordination, wherein the number of the first guide portion 203 and the second guide portion 273 can also be multiple, and does not need to be specifically limited to one.

In this way, the fourth embodiment can also achieve the same effect and purpose as the third embodiment.

Refer to Figures 22 to 25, which are the fifth embodiment of the new coaxial cable connector. The fifth embodiment is similar to the third embodiment, and the main differences are:

The head 20 of the spindle 2 has a front end 201, a rear end 202 and a plurality of elastic bending portions 204 formed at the rear end 202. In the present embodiment, each elastic bending portion 204 has a protruding end 205, and the outer surface of the protruding end 205 facing the spindle can be a pointed end (as shown in FIG. 25 ) or an arc shape or even a wave shape or other shapes; it is worth mentioning that the number of the elastic bending portions can also be only one, for example, the rear end of the head is provided with an opening, and an elastic bending portion is folded inwardly around the opening, and of course, multiple elastic bending portions spaced apart from each other can be folded inwardly around the opening as required. In addition, in this embodiment, the head 20 of the spindle 2 is formed by surrounding a sheet-like substrate 206 (as shown in FIG. 26 ), and the joint 207 where the opposite sides of the sheet-like substrate 206 are connected is shown in FIG. 25 .

The assembly procedure of the fifth embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector, for example, can be to first sleeve a limit ring 6 on the outer circumference of the front end 201 of the head 20; then, after the annular member 27 and the body 22 are assembled together, the first seal 4 and the second seal 5 are respectively installed in the inner groove 271 and the outer groove 272 of the annular member 27, and then placed in the tail end 202 of the head 20; then the semi-finished product after the above assembly is moved from the second end 12 of the sleeve 1 to the first end 11, and finally the limit tube 3 is plugged into the second end 12 of the sleeve 1, and the assembly is completed.

After assembly, the fifth embodiment of the novel coaxial cable connector can be installed on the connector 71 (as shown in FIG. 5 ) of the electronic device 7. The internal thread 13 of the sleeve 1 and the threaded surface 711 of the connector 71 are threadedly connected to each other. The sleeve 1 is continuously rotated so that the internal thread 13 gradually moves from a first position (as shown in FIG. 23 ) to a second position (as shown in FIG. 24 ) relative to the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7. As the sleeve 1 continues to rotate and move forward, the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 will push open the front end 201 of the head 20 on which the limiting ring 6 is installed. At this time, the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 and the head 20 of the spindle 2 have contacted, and the annular member 27 has also contacted the head 20. The three have been electrically connected and have an electrical conduction effect. Then, as the sleeve 1 continues to rotate and move forward, the end face 713 of the connector 71 will abut against the annular member 27 of the spindle 2 and the annular member 27 will be pressed against the spindle 2. The annular member 27 is pushed toward the second end 12 of the sleeve 1, thereby making the annular member 27 of the spindle 2 slide relatively in the head 20 (the annular member 27 is continuously in contact with the elastic bending portion 204 of the head 20) until the annular member 27 of the spindle 2 abuts against the stop portion 34 of the limiting tube 3; finally, the end section 232 of the body 22 of the spindle 2 penetrates into the annular space 36 defined by the limiting tube 3, so that the annular space 36 becomes smaller to compress the coaxial cable. Regardless of the third embodiment, the fourth embodiment or the fifth embodiment, during the process of the sleeve 1 gradually moving from the first position to the second position, the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7, the head 20 of the spindle 2 and the annular member 27 are in continuous contact with each other and maintain the effect of electrical conduction.

Refer to Figures 27 to 29, which are a variation of the head 20 of the mandrel 2 of the novel coaxial cable connector. The head 20 of the mandrel 2 has a hollow base 208 and a plurality of sheets 209 connected to the outer periphery of the hollow base 208. Each sheet 209 has a front end 201, a rear end 202, and at least one elastic bending portion 204 formed at the rear end 202. Each elastic bending portion 204 has a protruding end 205 toward the axis. The sheets 209 are spaced apart from each other in the circumferential direction of the hollow base 208.

In this way, the fifth embodiment can also achieve the same effect and purpose as the third embodiment.

In some embodiments, when the sleeve 1 is made of an elastic material or a plastic material and has flexibility, the internal thread 13 of the sleeve 1 and the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7 will be in closer contact with each other, so that the thread on the connector 71 of the electronic device 7 can fit tightly with the internal thread 13 of the sleeve 1, thereby making the gap width between the two close to zero or even without a gap, so as to avoid relative shaking between the sleeve 1 and the threaded portion 711 of the electronic device 7. In some embodiments, when the sleeve 1 is a heterogeneous material joint (as shown in FIG. 30 or FIG. 31 ), the material of the first end 11 of the sleeve 1 having the internal thread 13 is an elastic material or a plastic material, and the portion of the sleeve 1 other than the first end 11 having the internal thread 13 is, for example, a metal material, so that after connection, the internal thread 13 of the sleeve 1 and the threaded surface 711 of the electronic device 7 have no gap or a very small gap. In another embodiment, the internal thread 13 of the sleeve 1 can also be a geometric shape similar to a tooth or other non-threaded shape, such as a sharp tooth, so as to fit the threaded portion of the electronic device 7. To add, the connection between the first end 11 and the second end 12 of the sleeve 1 may be, for example, a reverse hook, riveting, adhesive, welding, groove, aperture interference or other connection methods.

In summary, the coaxial cable connector of the present invention is designed to be in electrical contact with the threaded surface of the connector through the head of the mandrel, so that the present invention can generate electrical conduction before it is completely fastened to the connector of the electronic device, so that the present invention has a continuous electrical conduction effect during use. In addition, the present invention can effectively prevent the coaxial cable from detaching without the use of special compression tools, so it can indeed achieve the purpose of the present invention.
