Abstract

This disclosure describes an umbrella-like device to protect an object (e.g., person, an area of land) from an article (e.g., precipitation, sun rays, falling debris). In some instances, the device includes flexible ribs attached to short restraining lines stored within a tube. When the ribs are pushed out of an open end of the tube, the restraining lines arc the flexible ribs. In some instance, a canopy may be placed over the ribs to collect the article (e.g., precipitation) and configured to allow for storage of the article in a reservoir.

Description

Umbrella device using elastic ribs

U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 61/945,131, entitled "Anti-Folding Umbrella", filed on February 27, 2014, and U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 62/026,633, "Compressed Anti-Folding Umbrella" The filing date is July 19, 2014, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference.

This creation relates to a device for protecting an object in the presence of precipitation/snow, in particular a device consisting of elastic ribs, canopies and restraining members.

The reference to "umbrella" refers not only to a portable or fixed device that has a canopy and protects people or objects from rain or the sun, but also prevents some substances from flowing into the underside of the canopy from the outer area of the canopy. A device that shields the area.

The first narrative about the umbrella, which is usually designed to protect the king and the warrior from the sun, has not changed much since the basic principle of operating the umbrella: the rigid member supports a canopy and directs the water out of the canopy while away from it. The person who operates the umbrella. Early on, there was also a description of relying on the power of the user (or other machinery) to prop up the semi-rigid or rigid umbrella frame mechanism. Many umbrella inventions have recently been related to these mechanisms, but there are still many inherent problems.

The first drawback is that the inside of the umbrella folds outwards in the presence of wind and needs to be turned back by hand. Another disadvantage of the prior art is that when the umbrella is fully extended, the edge furthest from the umbrella produces a small force against the wind. In such a situation, when a strong wind is produced The umbrella will thus disintegrate and expose the user.

A second disadvantage of the prior art is that the frame is joined at the seam by rigid members. These members are not only susceptible to bending and breakage, but also a location that is easily weakened over time.

A further disadvantage of the existing technology occurs when the umbrella is stowed after use. Since the rain will flow from the stowed canopy, the user may be soaked by the water at the top of the umbrella.

In addition, there is a problem with the opening of the umbrella. When the umbrella is opened, it is difficult to hold the umbrella high enough to avoid disturbing neighboring people. Since an umbrella performs its function normally, at least one specific size space is required around the user to open the umbrella. Therefore, this is a difficult problem to solve in the crowd.

The principle relied upon by this creation is to connect a longer elastic object to the ends of a shorter elastic object, wherein the longer object will bend and the shorter object will stretch to a tight state. This shorter object is referred to as "restricted component", "restricted line" or "line" in this creation. The longer elastic object is called "rib".

Using this principle, the present disclosure reveals several practical embodiments of applying this principle to devices (eg, umbrellas and/or umbrellas) to protect an object (eg, a person, a crowd, a geographic block, etc.) to avoid An object (eg, rain, sun, other weather conditions, flying debris, etc.) is received above the device. In some embodiments, the device can be designed as a personal device to protect a smaller subject or group, such as one or two people. However, in other embodiments, the device can be designed to protect a large object or group of people, such as a group of people, a sidewalk, a deck, or a courtyard of a house.

In one embodiment, the device is stored in a tube or other container using a set of shorter objects or restraining lines and a set of resilient, sturdy and long objects or ribs. In some embodiments, the rib is only secured to a sliding base located within the tube, the sliding base being attachable to an outer slip ring located outside of the tube. Each set of limit lines is secured to each end adjacent to a rib. For example, a rib extends to a first end of the tube and a rib is secured to the second end of the inner or inner sliding base of the tube. In some embodiments, when a user pushes the outer slip ring, the rib moves toward the outside of the tube. When the rib has been fully extended, the length from the outlet of the tube to each limit line connected to the first end of each rib is measured, and the length of each limit line will be shorter than the length of each rib. The ribs are forced to bend due to the tension generated by the length of the limit line. The shape of the ribs in the device may be further varied as a hood (e.g., fabric, vinyl, etc.) attached to the rib. In some embodiments, the canopy (or any other canopy described herein) can be configured with a solar cell, a photovoltaic cell, and/or a solar collector such that the captured energy can be converted to electrical energy or thermal energy.

Since the ribs and the restraining lines of the present creation are elastic and continuous, they can each independently oppose the wind in a dynamic manner. As the tension against the line increases, the full test strength of the line will produce a counter-wind effect. In some embodiments, since the device of the present invention does not have a joint in the restraining line or rib, it does not create a weakness as a device having a joint. By connecting the respective restriction lines to a position not at the outer edge of the rib, the contact point of the rib is bent by the wind to thereby steer the force.

In some embodiments, the limit line is telescopic (but less flexible than the force caused by the rib bending) which will thus stretch as the wind exerts a wind pressure on the hood under the device. This allows the hood to bend in response to the wind, but also provides a device in the device. The mechanism enables it to return to its normal open state.

In another embodiment, the limit line can be replaced by a continuous and stretchable inner fabric that is distinct from the awning. The radius of the inner fabric allows shorter objects to act against longer ribs and will disperse at a faster rate as the wind blows toward the inner fabric. In fact, the inner fabric is constructed such that the entire device can be bent by the wind, a way to quickly "span" the wind energy. Once the wind is flowing, the umbrella is supported by the normal tension between the inner fabric and the outer canopy and the ribs, thereby restoring its original open configuration.

In another embodiment, when the device is opened, the ribs of the device can be telescoped and contracted such that the device can have a tighter closed position. Similarly, a hinge or butterfly shape allows for a tight closure, which allows for easy transport. These mechanisms combine the use of elastic ribs (eg, carbon fiber-reinforced polymers, graphene, etc.) - by bending the shape using a restraining wire. When the user removes the elastic rib toward the outside of the tube by manipulating the restriction line connected to the tube and/or by manipulating a slide mechanism of the tube, the device will form the desired umbrella due to the curved elastic rib Shape configuration.

Embodiments of other partially opened devices - via precipitation events (eg rain, snow, etc.) - can collect water for use in a reservoir (eg, watering plants, purification, agriculture, etc.) when the device is fully open - When it has too much sunlight - it protects the surface from dryness. In some embodiments, the device can include a surface for collecting solar energy (eg, light) from the canopy. For example, a resilient canopy may include or be disposed with a solar cell, a photovoltaic cell, and/or a solar thermal collector such that the energy it receives may be converted to electrical energy or thermal energy.

In some embodiments, the disclosed apparatus utilizes a plurality of resilient ribs that are bent by the force generated by the shorter restraining members to support a canopy. Each of the ribs may be limited by a filament thread, an inner fabric or any other object that may limit the rib. Since the length of the restricting member (or the radius of the inner fabric) is smaller than the length of the elastic rib, the rib is forced to be arcuate. The size of the arc varies depending on the length of the restraining member (or the radius of the fabric), the length of the rib, and the position at which it is joined or intersected. Figures 1a to 3c show the progression from the closed to the open state of the personal umbrella device using such a line, and Figure 12 discloses an example of replacing the wire with an inner fabric.

It is envisioned that there are many methods for operating the resilient ribs in the device. For example, the mechanism can include a fiber, rope, wire or wire that is attached to a normally straight elastic member. By pulling a string through a loop secured to one or more locations on the resilient member, the resilient member will thus be bent (Fig. 6). By adjusting the stiffness of the resilient member, the position and number of the loops, and the distance the cord is pulled, it is possible to have different shapes for the device. The ribs of the different groups in the device also have the potential to be independently manipulated, which in turn can be configured by the user without restrictions. If the sensor and motor are placed in the device, it can enable the device to adjust the wind and resist folding.

It will be apparent that the above-described methods of using wires and elastic ribs can vary widely. Another variation is the use of a forming fabric sleeve without the use of a loop. The elastic rib can be solidified It is defined in a forming sleeve, and when the cord is pulled, the elastic rib will bend according to the shape of the sleeve.

Another variation is that the cord can be passed through a plurality of rigid and pivoted containers that rotate at the pivot position when tension is applied to the cord.

Another variation is when an inner elastic fabric having a radius similar to the line is used, thereby replacing the wire as a mechanism for applying force to the rib when the rib is pushed to the open position. The inner fabric acts as a means of dissipating the air taken under the device. Not only is the inner fabric less than the awning relative to the wind, the overall combination of the hood and the inner elastic fabric can also flex with the wind.

Another possible application of this creation is to provide a shelter that is easy for backpackers to use, as shown in FIG.

Another embodiment of the present creation, as shown in Figure 14, has agricultural uses. In the partially open state, the device collects rainwater during rainfall and stores it in the container for later use. At other times, the device protects crops and gardens from strong sunlight when it is fully open, while the water in the container can be used to irrigate plants.

In another embodiment - in order to bring the device into a tighter closed state - the present invention utilizes a plurality of pairs of resilient ribs that are bent to support the canopy rather than pushing the rigid members against each other to support the cover Canopy.

The nested ribs used in the closed position, in the present disclosure, disclose a plurality of pairs of ribs comprising a hollow lower rib and an upper rib located therein. The upper rib is withdrawn between the lower ribs when the device is opened. A coupled sleeve slides over the joint between the upper and lower ribs to form a rigid unit. The schema reveals an embodiment of the mechanism that utilizes the positioning of the line, The opening action draws the upper rib from the lower rib. The base of the lower rib is connected to a sliding base.

Using a butterfly mechanism, the present disclosure also discloses a plurality of pairs of ribs comprising an upper rib and a lower rib coupled to a force-spring butterfly type component when the device performs an opening action. The component can be a simple tension spring or can be any other device, two of which are shown in the drawings.

The coupling of the upper and lower ribs in each pair of ribs can be achieved in a number of ways. Two of the possible methods are shown in the figure. Wherein a coupled sleeve slides past the junction between the upper and lower ribs. Further, as shown in Fig. 16, the lower rib has a tip point which can be inserted into the insertable end of the upper rib.

Each pair of upper and lower ribs is limited by a line or an inner fabric. Since the length of the wire (or the radius of the inner fabric) is less than the length of the pair of elastic ribs, the pair of ribs are forced to form an arc. The size of the arc is determined by the length of the wire (or the radius of the inner fabric), the length of the pair of ribs, and the point at which they are joined or intersected.

Another embodiment of the present invention includes hingedly merging between pairs of members that extend outwardly when the rib is withdrawn from the container, as shown in Figures 21a through 21c.

It will be apparent that these wires as well as the elastic ribs can have many different variations. Another variation is to pass a line through two hollow ribs comprising a set of stacked ribs. This line can extend the upper rib to also move the coupled sleeve into position.
