A resin-coated metallic pigment having a resin layer formed on surface of a metallic pigment by polymerization carried out by using (A) at least one member selected from the group consisting of radical-polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acids, and/or, phosphoric mono-or diesters having one or two radical-polymerizable double bonds, and/or, coupling agents having a radical-polymerizable double bond, (B) at least one monomer having three or more radical-polymerizable double bonds, and (C) a polymerization initiator, adding (A) at first to treat a metallic pigment, followed by continuous and supplementary addition, little by little, of at least one of (B) and (C), which resin-coated metallic pigment gives a metallic coating film excellent in weather resistance, chemical resistance, and gloss, and is excellent in storage stability in an aqueous coating material; and a metallic coating material obtained by using said resin-coated metallic pigment.
