Abstract

The present invention provides an air conditioner that can prevent the damage from a switching element for power switching (frequency modulation) and inhibit the vibration at starting of the air conditioner. Henceforth, referred to Fig. 2, the air conditioner comprises a variable power alternating device to drive a compressor, while using the output frequency of a power switching device to vary the frequency range and time variation corresponding to the load of the air conditioner, which is characterized in comprising: control means for controlling the starting frequency at a predetermined value lower than the minimum of the output frequency of the power alternating device and the timing variation at a range larger than the previous timing range towards the minimum of the frequency range.
