Abstract

A portable information terminal comprises an information selecting apparatus that is easy to use in manipulating a cursor on a display screen precisely and reliably as desired by a user. The portable information terminal includes two jog dials and a display unit. The jog dials may each be pushed from behind the display unit and may be rotated on the display unit front. The pushes on the two jog dials correspond to a left-hand and a right-hand click button of a mouse. In a drag-and-drop operation involving the handling of the cursor and a target, the jog dials are manipulated by the user's fingers so that the cursor is positioned within an area covering the target. When the target is selected, the user further operates the jog dials to move the selected target to its final destination on the display.
