Abstract

Method for classifying a fingerprint comprising the steps of: (A). converting a M x N fingerprint as a set of pixel data stored in an image memory the gray level of each point in the fingerprint is stored in a respective address; (B). dividing the gray level data as m x n sections of M/m x N/n; (C). dividing the m x m sections into fingerprint sections and background section; (D). determining average fingerprint line direction; (E). according to the average fingerprint line direction of the fingerprint section, determining the one or two core points in the fingerprint section; and (F). according to the core points and average fingerprint line direction, classifying the fingerprint into one of a plurality of fingerprint class.
