Abstract

A method of manufacturing a self-supporting optical cable, which comprises feeding a support wire and an optical cable main body in a parallel arrangement; using an extruder to wrap a guitar-shape sheath on the outer periphery thereof; passing one face of the sheathed self-supporting optical cable, prior to its hardening, through one face of a plurality of guide wheels thereby cooling the optical cable and endowing a redundant length to the optical cable main body; which is characterized in that: the guide wheels are disposed in a cooling water tank; and the guide wheels in contact with one side of the self-supporting optical cable and the guide wheels in contact with the other side of the self-supporting optical cable are arranged alternately in the feeding direction.
