An air conditioner comprising: (1) a body forming an air inlet for sucking air in; (2) a heat exchanger located in the body for undergoing heat exchange with air; (3) an air outlet formed by the body for discharging the heat-exchanged air into the room; (4) air orienting vanes transversely located at the air outlet for controlling the flowing direction of the discharged air; (5) a motor-driven vane adjustment mechanism located in the body for adjusting the direction of the vanes allowing air to be blown from the inlet to the outlet and through the heat exchanger; (6) a variable fan located in the body for air to be blown from the inlet to the outlet through the heat exchanger; and (7) an air flow control device located in the body and comprising: (a) a distance determination mechanism; (b) a location determination mechanism; and (c) a control mechanism.
