Abstract

A core-shell latex composition comprising latex particles, each latex particle comprising: (a) a core comprising a (co)polymer comprising (meth)acrylate ester, in which the copolymer has a glass transition temperature of from -50℃ to 105℃, in which the core comprises a (co)polymer of the following monomer, of which the monomer is selected from the group consisting of methylacrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, isooctyl acrylate, isobornyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and a mixture thereof; (b) a shell, surrounding the core, comprising a copolymer, in which the copolymer comprises: (i) a nitrogen-bearing ethylenically-unsaturated free-radically polymerizable monomer; (ii) based on the total weight of the shell, 40 to 85% by weight of at least one (meth)acrylate ester of a C1 to a C14 alcohol; and (iii) based on the total weight of the shell, 0.01 to 10% by weight of an ethylenically-unsaturated free-radically polymerizable silane monomer; in which the nitrogen-bearing ethylenically-unsaturated free-radically polymerizable monomer comprises from 15 to 60 percent by weight of the shell and further in which the core comprises from 40 to 85 percent of the weight of the total core-shell latex particle; in which each latex particle comprises only one layer of shell.
